Disappointing

The Pixel has not been reviewed by anyone who has actually USED it, nor has anyone who placed an order received it yet so we have 7 pages of discussion about the specifications and price. There are also NO benchmarks of a production version yet.

IMHO how it FUNCTIONS in the REAL WORLD is much more important than the specifications.

Well... I guess all the Pixel haters can now meander on over to the LG V20 forums... $830 smack-a-roos!

Snapdragon 820
4GB RAM
Android 7 (no 7.1 :p)
No timely security updates
No ip68
No dual speakers
No................. this, that or the other...

Really the only reasons to buy the LG V20 are the Quad DAC and the removable battery.

Wonder if I should head on over there and cause hate and discontent???

Naw, I'll let the people who want the phone enjoy it.. :D :p

That's my plan. I'll wait for the price drop.... I'm no market analyst but I can't see this phone, costing much for an extended period of time.

You will be waiting a loooooooooong time then...

Google never cared how many Chromebook Pixels they sold and the price never wavered... People are not understanding how Google views the Pixel line...

It looks like Google does not care how many Pixel Phones they sell..

Osterloh knows that "We certainly aren’t going to have enormous volumes out of this product. This is very first innings for us." Google’s metric of success for Pixel won’t be whether it picks up significant market share, but whether it can garner customer satisfaction and form retail and carrier partnerships that Google can leverage for years to come.

The pixel C certainly went on sale. There will be a sale at some point. Doesn't have to be straight from google. Since retail outlets will be selling it too they can have all the sales they want. I don't think we will have to wait all that long

The only Pixel C that went on sale was the top tier storage option and it was brief and only $75...

Sure carriers might offer a discount but do you really want to be tied to carrier update (or lack thereof) hell to save a few pennies? Not me...

I got it on sale through b and h photo. My point is if retailers are able to get their hands on it there will be sales of some sort. Not just through carriers. And honestly they wouldn't have put their phone on Verizon if they wanted it to not sell. You don't lie in bed with the devil to hope for a good customer experience.
, you do it for money.

I think you are both right and wrong.. Read the article as to why they made a deal with the devil.. Long term strategy..

My point on pricing is buying from Google direct. Personally I think anyone who buys from a carrier is nuts. If you want payments then Google does those for the Pixel..

B&H ROCKS! BTW... :)

I think we should wait and see what the official reviews will be of the device. While the price range is high and some features were missed what phone out there actually hits all the spots? Everyone will always point out to some feature they wanted that is missing. I for one wish phones would offer front facing speakers particularly when there are big chins. I believe the odd looking glass half is to provide better reception and better wifi.

Like others have mentioned perhaps the pricing has more to do wirh competing with the high end phones out there as well as the costs of direct Google support built into the phone. I'd rather wait and see how the phone pans out and whether it will be successful or not. How unfortunate would it be if it turns out to be a dropped idea.

If Google sold the Pixel for $399 with a SD 820, 3GB of RAM and an average camera with no added features people would still be throwing tantrums..

It would be something like this:

1. ugh SD 820?
2. WTF with that camera?
3. no SD card slot? Pass
4. $399 for year old tech? Pass!
5. doze bezels tho! Pass!
6. Add 49 other complaints that would surface

If Google does not build a $800 smart phone and sell it for $49.95 then this is the reaction:

I've given up and will just sit back, read and laugh at most of the comments.... It's to the point of being comic releif while I wait for mine to ship.. :D

I'm pretty sure no one would've had a problem with a SD 820 when all the 821 is practically an up in clock speed. They could've pushed for 4gb of RAM considering practically every phone in that price range has 4+.... No SD card wouldn't be that much of a problem considering the price point. Yes the phone would still be ugly... That's all their fault.. But people WOULD NOT be complaining about the price... People are complaining now because it doesn't have what other phones in that price range have. THAT'S why people are turned off on this phone. *face palm*

I cannot speak about US prices , but here in Germany I wouldn't want to pay more than 700€ for a phone. The Pixel XL with 128GB is 1000€. I am sorry, but it is not worth it.

If I decided to get the Pixel, then it would be only the XL model. Since there is no 64GB option, I would have to go with the 128GB model. This costs 1007€ here in Germany. Selling my HTC 10 would bring me 400€ tops. The answer to the question if the Pixel xl is 600€ better than my HTC, is a clear no. Actually the HTC is the better phone.
If I compare the Pixel to my HTC 10, then I would have to see that the Pixel has a lower resolution AMOLED display (which sucks because of the viewing angles and Pixel density/placement), compared to the 2K LCD Display of my HTC.
I would have to ignore the fact that the sound quality will be worse, especially from the bottom firing speaker.
What would I get for my money? A good , solid phone that will always get updates in a timely manner. The Google Assistant is not something I consider, since I have it in Allo and since Google Now is actually doing more or less the same things. The Google storage is also not important to me.
Another problem is that the Pixel has a 5" display, compared to the 5,2" of my HTC 10. Add to that the space taken from the soft buttons and you have much less usable space compared to my device.
How can I ignore these facts and say yes to the Pixel? I see zero advantages and many disadvantages.
HTC will also deliver updates for the next two years, so I don't worry about that too..
Next year, when the Pixel 2 comes out, I will consider it.
I love Google and its great software, but I will pass on that.

Exactly x2

What other phones is it available on? I would be really interested in knowing that, and I'm sure Google would too since they haven't made it available for any other phones.
So again I'm gonna have to say you have no idea what Google Assistant really is.

Its available within Google Allowed which can be downloaded on and used on practically every phone *face palm*

The S7 does have added value are you crazy? Best display on the market, micro SD card slot, Samsung Pay which works practically EVERYWHERE, arguably a better camera (Pixel doesn't have OIS and DxOMark isn't that trustworthy considering they have the S7e camera and HTC 10 camera at the same score), costs much less considering deals, and has wireless charging but it has no extra value? Also he was right in that statement... It seems like you're in some serious denial my friend. Lol.

Second or third best display, behind the Note 7 and depends on how you consider the iPhone 7 display.
Micro SD slot but low internal storage, much better options available on Moto Z, Moto Z Force, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, LG V20, Note 7, Pixel, Pixel XL, etc.
Note 7, S7, S7 Edge, HTC 10 and Sony Xperia Performance were in a 5 way tie for 1st based on the capabilities of the sensor, now they're in a 5 way tie for second.
It's $672 on Verizon, so within $25 +/- of smaller Pixel, iPhone 7, HTC 10, Unlocked Moto Z, etc, etc.
Wireless charging it's alone with (with the Note 7) for major flagships this year.

So yes, it has nice features, but it's definitely not the best in almost any category - it's just well rounded... just like all of the phones listed above minus the Sony Xperia Performance.

So does every other company on the planet earth.. Tech wise at least.

I was referring to this.

"I'd rather wait and see how the phone pans out and whether it will be successful or not. How unfortunate would it be if it turns out to be a dropped idea."

Pixel success is yet to be determined.
