Discuss Task Managers/Killers Here!

That's fine, but in order for this to work, I need people to actually contribute. Let's get some lists going people.

Are you using an Auto Task Killer?

Loving my Evo but doing all I can to get the battery to last as long as possible. I read one review where the person basically said an auto task manager was an absolute must. I tried one and began to experience problems with my phone not letting me use certain widgets/apps like it used to. Want to know if any of you are using a task manager on your evo and if so, what would you say are the ideal settings so as not to compromise performance for better battery.

Thanks in advance.

I've tried 4 or 5 and I've settled on Toggle Settings, version 2.9. It's easy to use and shows the info you need in a clear and intuitive manner.

I am using one called "Task Manager" but there are 2 that I saw in the store, so I am using the one with the little android green man with a small "red" circle with a white X. It allows you to set certain apps to be killed so you can leave others running. I am going to test another one I read about so I will try to follow up with the results.

However, "Task Manager" has really saved my battery life!

Task Killers don't save battery (directly from developer of ATK)

I was raving on and on about how ATK (Advanced Task Killers) saved me from returning my phone.. and how it quadruple my battery life. I contacted the developer to thank them and make a donation, and told them of my experience.

This was their reply:

"Whether you need to use ATK or not, it all depends on if you need to terminate apps by yourself or by OS. I am not sure if there are any apps alive consume battery a lot. If you use ATK to kill some apps consume battery a lot, it might save your battery. But I have to say there isn't any app can save battery directly. Every app can consume resource and can consume battery. So I suggest you don't use ATK very often. According to google's investigation, 3g, wifi, internet, gps consume battery a lot. I suggest you turn off those kind of apps to see if your battery live a little longer.

Rechild Support Team"

I was floored... lol. A developer telling me not to use his product a lot. (Further emails back and forth have also additionally made it clear... task killers were not designed for the purpose of extending battery life.

I've removed it.

Really!?!?!?

I was losing about 12%/hr. on standby with only sync and GPS on. I installed ATK and shut down all the Sprint apps and other crap that you can't uninstall. Now, I'm losing about 2%/hr. If it's not ATK, what is it? That's the only change I made.

Trust me... i don't understand it either. I actually contacted them to make a donation! It was the only change i made... as well and I was convinced it was ATK.... but to hear them tell it... they had no idea what i was talking about. lol

Because one of the apps you're killing is using all the battery. Stop that program or find an alternative. That is the real solution, and will likely save you even more power.

Which in the grand scheme of things makes absolutely no sense unless you're running some insanely large app that needs ALL the RAM all the time.

Coming from a Blackberry and back in my G1 Days I'm very Memory Conscious...

I know the phone can handle anything i throw at it but i like to keep things slimmed down... Thats why its a Great application for my needs...

Keeping it "slimmed down" reduces performance, especially on application start time, as well as ruining a good portion of the multitasking experience. Android knows how to handle memory, let it do its job.

ATK Problems..

I Know some believe it and some dont, but ATK saves battery life for me. So I will continue to use ATK.

BUT ! My alarm clock only goes off sometimes, so I uninstalled ATK last night and it worked this morning ! My main problem is I cant put my Alarm Clock on the "Ignore task" list ! Any ideas or a walkthrough ? thanks.

Nevermind, you have to hold the task you want to goto "ignore list" and a menu will pop up and you can put it to the ignore list.

I feel like a tard today.
