Discussion on the appeal of iOS vs Android

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

My wife cones from a huge family. The annual Thanksgiving gathering at her sister's is 40-50 people. There's not an iPhone to be found. All Android.

Android since v1.0. Linux user since 2001.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

I personally would use an iPhone 6s. I like that type of size in an Apple phone but because they are so overprice and their features does not match my LG G3's 538ppi, Quad display for 1/4 of the price of an unlocked iPhone. That's why to me an iPhone is an overprice disappointment.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

I've actually noticed an increase in Android phones, mostly galaxy phones, from what I have seen
However, I still do see a lot of iPhones
I think there is still some sense of a status symbol for the iPhone, but it is slowly going away

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

[EDIT] I post this after the fingerprint scanner on my LG V10 once again has gone MIA.

I would imagine most people just don't care to geek out over every little function and micro-process. For many, its the reliability and post-sale customer support thats more important than anything else.

I myself have an LG V10, and previously had a Sony Xperia Z3. I absolutely did not hesitate to get my wife a 6S+. If it crashes, or (more likely) she configures something that crashes... I take it right back to the apple store for them to diagnose. I am OK managing one buggy non-iOS device... I would not want to manage her's too, and more importantly try to undo what she screws up... after she has most likely forgotten how she screwed it up.

Lets face it, the iOS deep-configure limitations work out to its favor for many, in that its pretty mistake-proof. You just can't go deleting stuff and do things to stuff in iOS that would render it irrecoverably inoperative.

In no way am I saying I despise the iPhone, I love the build quality, the user friendliness, simplicity and speed of use of the iPhone, but why do all my classmates have one?

9/10 of my classmates have an iPhone, and I'm the 'odd one out' for owning an andriod device, the Galaxy S6.

But what makes people buy an overpriced device just because everyone else has the exact same device? I mean a 16GB device for twice the pricr as an Andriod flagship that matches it or is on par specs wise? I don't get it.

Why is the iPhone at $649 vs the Galaxy S6 32GB at $699, over priced. I agree that a 16GB phone is stupid. But prices equal out at 64GB.
The iPhone performs just as well as the galaxy only without the keyboard lag. Specs don't mean ****.
It's the end performance that matters. If everyone had a Galaxy S6, wouldn't everyone have the EXACT same device?

Maybe they like having a local store that will service the device rather than having to deal with some over seas phone service that reads a script because they don't understand 90% of what you are saying.
Maybe they like getting updates the day they come out vs Still waiting, 6 months later..... 6.0 on a galaxy? nope.
Maybe they like iMessage over hangouts. Messaging is WAY better on iOS than Android.

I use both. I Love my iPhone 6S+ and I Love the Note 5 (and galaxy line).
The average general public don't Want to customize their phone, other than wallpaper, they just want it to work, and iPhone does that. Hell, most of the general public don't understand How to do much more than the basics on Any phone. Most people are tech dumb.

Everyone you know have an iPhone because they or most don't really research a phone. They just go with
the hype that all Apple products are the best..

...or the iPhone just works for them.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

Still surprised at some of the comments when it comes to the iPhone. Read the comments on the Note 5 vs 6S Plus that was posted today and it's the same old comments: stupid, sheep, status, "closed os", hate Apple, etc. I just don't get it and I thought we were moving past that.

I use an iPhone 6S Plus because it's a great, solid phone. Call quality is great and the OS is smooth and fluid. Also sitting next to me right now is a Note 5. Incredible screen, feels great in the hand and just an awesome phone. I switch off weekly. The important thing? I don't care what other people think of my phone, and neither should the OP.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

People use iphone because they want too.... same reason I used to. And Secondly there's a lot to be said about all people's friends having one it makes it easier to send things back and forth over iMessage.
To each their own I like my s6 at the moment it does what I need it to do

Similar but reversed for me, my side of the family is predominately Android with a couple sprinkles of iPhone; her side is iPhone if they carry a smartphone. :D

I don't know too many singles anymore, most of our friends are married or at least dating, and they tend to match platforms. As far as I can tell my wife and I are the exceptions to this rule - she has an iPhone, I have a G3.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

I somehow agrees with you.
I've seen way many iPhone users using it just for the hype.
When i ask them what they know about iOS, they have no clue.

That would explain most of the people I work with who use Android phones. Most of them have no idea what all those settings do and I am pretty much the same way. I have a Note 4 and a Note Edge and really haven't bothered to find out what many of those settings do. I set up the phone to use it the way I want it to be and I just use it. I also rooted both phones just so I can block ads in apps and on the web. That's all I need.

I agree, it's the majority of people. I remember reading a post on one of the Apple forums about three years ago that said something like 25% of iPhone owners never connected their phone to iTunes or even knew about upgrading the iOS version. Well, I'm sure that's not just iPhone users. I'm sure a huge amount of people who use Android phones don't know there is a check for updates section in the settings. This is probably why Google and Apple started automatically downloading the OS updates and then telling the user that it is ready to install.

Also remember, the people who use these phone related forums are a small number of the total people using phones. I'm sure that most of the people you work with have no idea what Android Central is. Ask them what rooting is and they would have no clue.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

Tinkerers vs. experience lovers? That's why I love my Android devices, but I went iPhone this go around. I need my phone to work for me, but I love putting in time geeking about on my Android tablets.

I was going to go affordable Android this time, but fell in love with the experience of the iPhone 6s Plus. Made sense for me.

I also like knowing when an update is out for my iPhone, it's going to tell me and I have a good idea it's going to complete without issue (although, a work iPhone I had didn't do so well a while back). I just don't have time anymore to play around with my phone when it's highly mission critical for me.

Re: Why does everyone I know have iPhones?

Does it have to be that complicated? Why can't people like things that they like?

Re: You can never impress or please others with your phone?

I know NO ONE that thinks they're cool cuz they have an Apple product and I live in San Francisco. I don't hate Apple. I'm not their biggest fan either. I get why people like iPhone's and it's the SAME reason why back in 1999 (when I was in school for graphic design) that people preferred Mac over PC's. Like iOS, MacOS has always been known as more "user friendly" for the masses. People that don't like to think or learn new technological marvels go with Apple because it effortlessly works for them. People who like to tinker, root, customize, etc I find tend to lean more towards android. But, I have good friends who go back and forth from iOS to android and love/hate things about BOTH.

But, if you go through life feeling like your phone is a status symbol - then so be it. Do you. I personally don't judge people based on what tech they do or don't own. It's hardly a basis for a valid judgment of someone's character or status (not that status matters to me anyways) But, if you need to have a "stylish status symbol" in your pocket then you might want to rethink your priorities in general.

I have used both systems. Recently switched back to iphone but dont really see so much of a difference as was a few years ago pre kit kat. Love android flexibility. Launchers, icon packs, notification center, newer apps look nice in material design. Go nexus for quick updates if that is a concern. But honestly my moto x started to get buggy. Poor battery life, spotty wifi, lack of accessories. So I gave iphone 6s another shot. Solid battery life, integrates well with car, unrivaled itunes artist availability, endless choice of accessories, itunes u for work, and overall does what I need it to do. Do I miss android? Sometimes, but not enough yet to switch back. Also resale is important to some. Iphone will always hold value. My moto x ... Not so much.
