Dismiss notification on Lollipop TW

On my Note 4 with Android 5.0.1, the gigantic notifications are really disturbing my workflow.
Regardless of how annoying they are, some are important and I'd like keep them in the notifications panel, but swiping them into any direction deletes the whole notification.

Is there a way to just dismiss the notification, not delete it?
Or can I make the notifications smaller?

You can preserve the notification by sliding it up. Dismiss it by sliding it to the right.
(Update: That is for 5.1.1 - not sure about 5.0.1)
