display always on all notifcations shows up when turn on or not

notifications like facebook, gmail etc etc do they show up by any chance or is the display always on is limited onto what notifications you can get

It will depend on phone and software, but in marshmallow you can go into settings>notifications and set up which app can show up...

To be clear, the "Always On Display" will only show you notifications from Phone, stock SMS and stock Email. No other notifications will appear in the Always on Display. However those notifications will still be received and if you turn on the screen, they will display on your notification screen just as normal. They just won't appear when your screen is off, in the AOD mode.
