display cycles on & off during VM access

While I haven't yet noted exactly what's else is running when this happens, every once in a while when using the phone, like to check my voice mail, when I try to type in the VM password, the display starts to cycle on and off every second. The only way I can regain control is to restart the phone.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions?
