I noticed on Tuesday that the Pixel 2 XL has a 6.0" 2880x1440 pOLED screen, the same as the LG V30's, and it's a phone made by LG.... So my guess is that they are using the same panel as they are on the V30, and I heard the V30 had some issues with it's screen, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Anyone have any ideas?

Is the screen concave at all, or just curved down where it meets the bezels?

Ok, great - thanks for the info.

No overall curved glass like the Nexus S had, for example, though, right?

Remember those days? Lol

The glass is curved on the XL. I'll have to see more pics though because it looks like the actual display is not curved, but the glass continues to bend ..

Grrr.. screen protectors are going to be a pain to find a decent one that covers edge to edge

So correct me if I am wrong but The pixel 2 uses amoled while the 2xl uses poled? But all oled screens made by Samsung and LG for their high end phones use active matrices and plastic substrates. So they are all amoled and poled. That is almost like having two squares and calling one a quadrilateral and the other a rectangle.

You are absolutely correct: both are plastic, both are active, and "AMOLED" and POLED" are the respective companies' marketing terms, nothing more.

I believe there is a subtle difference but can't remember where I read it.

There's a difference in the subpixel arrangements they use I believe, and doubtless differences in manufacturing processes, control electronics, etc (and probably a slew of patents covering those differences). But the things that the marketing names refer to (plastic and active matrix) are common to both.

POLED just means it uses a plastic substrate to wedge. AMOLED can be plastic or glass. POLED is a thing. AMOLED is a Samsung marketing term.

Does anyone know if the poled display on the pixel 2 xl has the same issues as the V30's poled display?

But what will people scream and cry about before they have even seen the phones in person and then when blaming their overblown problems with their phones when they finally get them weeks from now?

Well probably. But if people have concerns - and I can see the possible concern here, even though I am not worried - they should see the phones in person before shelling out that much money.

While I am not at all worried about the display, anyone who does have concerns would be perfectly justified in seeing it before laying out between $850 - $1100 with tax sight unseen. That's a lot to spend if you are concerned. If I were truly worried, I would wait too..

Could always just return it if the display is garbage.. i do love samsung amoled.. i started with it in the Samsung epic 4g.. Never had anyother display other than once in LG G2.. but sold it cause of odd hardware issues after the 2nd rma.. Oled rulez.. well i guess until high resolution microled..

I agree. If people have concerns they should wait and check the screens out in person.

I, like you, am not at all concerned.

You mean people shouldn't be judging the screens based on pics taken at odd angles in questionable conditions and with who knows what kind of gear which are displayed on who knows what kinds of monitors?

WHAT IS THIS MADNESS YOU SPEAK OF?
