Display won't turn off

I have set the display timeout to 30, but the display won't turn off. The only way I can turn off the display is use to use the power button. Any ideas on how to fix? This is my first Android so I may be missing a setting.

Did you try rebooting the phone.. hold down the power button and press restart.

Or do a old school battery pull.
