I stumbled upon THIS thread about rubberizing the battery door with plastidip, at first i was weary of spraying anything on there cause i didnt want to mess anything up if i didnt like it.

After testing on a water bottle, it peeled off with no ill effects, i gave it a go in these steps. :)

1. Get plastidip (5$ at home depot), get something to stick your battery cover too (i used a check box and a bucket :p), and get some tape to mask and hold the battery door down.

2. Mask the NFC contacts and chip with tape, but not the whole back side as we want the coating to wrap around the edges to minimize the chance of peeling as time goes on.

3. Wash your hands and the battery door with soap and water. Dont submerge the door though obviously. the goal is to get all grease and oil off so the spray will stick perfectly. Rubber gloves help with this step so you dont re apply oil from your hands.

4. Tape the battery door onto whatever youre propping it up with, I did the double sided tape trick thing by rolling the tape onto itself.

5. Shake the plastidip really well, for at least 60 seconds.

6. Keep in mind we are going for light, consistant coats. I did 5 coats, holding the can 12-16 inches away like it says, and waiting 30-40m mins in between.

7. Begin spraying and remember there's no rush. Apply until satisfied. I recommend tilting whatever is holding your battery door to the side and hitting the edges and underside with plastidip too, because this stuff is easy to peel off if an edge gets started but is otherwise great. Also, i was worried about my mic hole and other holes in the battery door getting clogged but light coats prevented this :D

8. Allow at least 2 hours before touching it after your final coat, and 6 hours to fully dry is what it says on the can.

9. Enjoy :)

This will work on anything else you wish to rubberize too, from other Galaxy S phones, too the handles of pliers.

I've attached some pictures of mine. I didnt get a shot of the first coat, but it was really light and you could still see the google/samsung logo.

That's really cool man, I've got to try that out

Wait, is this something to put on the back of the NS4G since it's like a fingerprint magnet?

Yes it goes on the stock cover. Its for fingerprints, eliminate plastic feel, and to eliminate it slipping.

And it can peel off if you don't like it or whatever and it wont look any different.

Thanks for bumping this. I missed it the first time around.

Gonna try this out tomorrow!

Plasti dip bought

Rubber gloves on.

First coat applied.

Hows it turning out?

I've found out that its smart to apply maybe 6-7 layers and focus on all the curves/places where the phone will touch when laid on a flat surface. To avoid peeling obviously :p

It turned out good. Only did 3 coats, but missed the edges horribly, so it's starting to peel. Gonna re do it today after work.

Here's a picture.

I was about to spray it like that on a flat surface too but the sides would have got missed terribly so I did the above to hit the sides good and a bit of the under side.

Yeah, I guess I need to try it like that.. But I was also doing it in my bathtub..So I need to figure out a way to keep it from going everywhere.

Definitely. But wherever the excess spray lands, you can let it dry and peel it off if need be :p

Welp, had to retry it two more times, the first retry I over sprayed the entire thing and it looked terrible. The second time was better, got it wrapped around the edges, but also got water on it, so it has a couple pock marks, but looks good for the most part. Going to keep it, maybe put another coat on this morning after work.

I like the feel of this stuff. Been thinking of going further up the sides and getting every shiney plastic part I can see on the device, but I worried about the buttons..

Can't you guys run a string through the camera or flash hole and then hang it?

Actually doing it in the bathroom is a good idea. Hang it from the shower head and go to town. As long as you have tile in there is should peel right off afterwards.

You could string it up but the wire would get in the way and leave a mark, then it would Peel starting at that mark.

Key to this is to take your time, if you do a nice quality job it will be really nice and last for a good amount of time.
