Do all contacts must be saved to Google

I am new to Android 6. I found that the contacts must be saved to Google now. Is there any way to avoid that and save to local memory?

@oncinc: From my understanding the contacts are already-Saved

in the Phone internal memory and saved to Google now is to

prevent contacts lose..That's my opinion: Any other replies?

I had exactly the same problem - didn't want to save contacts in the cloud . Try using MyLocalAccount from the Playstore. It works well for me
