Rooted using Petes one root about 2 months ago. With the new update being released by Verizon do I have to unroot before I update. If so how do I unroot.
Thanks.

You don't have to unroot but you have to restore any bloat apps that you may have removed or frozen.

Has it been confirmed for sure that you'll lose root if you don't have the forever hack? And has it been confirmed that forever root will keep it rooted?

Its a safe bet yep. Or gamble and don't apply a quick 10 second hack that won't hurt anything and will probably save you a great headache. Your choice.

If I do forever root only will I still get the update? The phone would be stock except for root.

Shouldn't be a problem. Worst case scenario it could reject the update, so you would have to delete the foreverroot script which would take 2 seconds. But that's almost definitely not going to happen.

Ack...I thought that it might brick phone according to this post on here: http://forums.androidcentral.com/bi...-dont-do-any-moto-updates-will-lose-root.html

So I put everything back to stock and unrooted and applied the OTA.

Any chance I'll be able to root again?

Lol what did you only read the title and not the actual discussion?

I can't promise anything but you may be able to do this...
1. Flash back to stock system using the releasedroot tool: R3L3As3Droot And 43V3R Root For The Bionic V2.1 - RootzWiki
Use the correct option and this will install the foreverroot hack for you actually.
2. Flash this file in cwr (if you don't already have bionic bootstrap you'll need that from the market). Then you bootstrap recovery, boot into recovery, and install this file from sd card: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/47300967/FULL_CWR_5.5.893_update.zip

Again I can't promise anything, and standard disclaimer is if you screw something up its your own fault...

I did read the actual discussion and participated in it that's why I removed the forever root and unrooted. It sounds like I can just root the 893 version which is the OTA update I just did from using the releasedroot tool. Looks like option # 2 will Root and ForeverRoot a Bionic - roots it and installs the Forever Root hack. This works with all Bionics (866 and 893 rev). Would I still need to Flash the file you list in the 2nd instruction?

Thanks for all your help!!

Try it out... maybe I was confusing update numbers..? Obviously if it works and roots your system on the OTA then you're good..

Thanks for the advice, all rooted up and waiting for my update.

FWIW, I just got the .902 OTA notice on my rooted Bionic today. I finally overcame my fear of bricking my phone and followed the Forever Root instructions before accepting the .902 Update. Everything went smoothly. The phone updated without a hitch, and kept root.

I was 4ever rooted with 5.5.893 and I just installed 5.9.902 and kept root.
