Do I need a case and/or Screen protector for my NEW MAXX?

Thanks for your reply. I have 3 questions for you:
  1. If the iSmooth screen protector is so good that it has a Lifetime guarantee, why are there 3 in the package?
  2. I checked out the Diztronic case & I like it, but wonder if the silicone makes it stick to every pocket you try to slip it into. I like using a very small camera case hooked to my belt loop for convenience and wonder if the Ditztronic would be difficult to slip in & out?
  3. What is Tapatalk?

1.) People mess up protector installations. Also, while I've never scratched mine there definitely not scratch proof.

2.) Distronic cases are not sticky at all. I wish there was more grip but you won't have any trouble sliding it in and out

3.) Tapatalk is a forum reader app from the Play Store.

Oh ... I use Incipio DualPro. Love it.

Thanks for your response Janet. Before buying the DualPro did you look at the Ditztronic case? They seem very similar but the Ditztronic is 1/3rd the price! If you did look at it, what made you pick the DualPro?

Thank you for your prompt reply. Sounds like one of the first apps I should get is Tapatalk. I've been waiting until I can get to my desktop to read the forum responses. That's why sometimes it takes me a while to reply. The Ditztronic case does sound good. You can't beat the price and I like that it is very light (IMO the phone is already too heavy). Fair enough on why there are 3 screen protectors in a package. In my old Palm days I used to change my protector every month. I think the problem there was the stylus causing the scratches. While it isn't as precise, I do prefer my finger; I always have it with me. LOL

Went naked for the first 3 days until my Maxx dropped out of my pocket, fell 2' to a concrete floor and cracked the glass all the way across and chipped the hell out of both edges of the glass.
Plenty of other posts about similar things happening. Like Unobtanium said if your rough on phones in the least, get yourself a case. Id like to add if you dont have insurance on the phone get a BIG case or get insurance. I went with the Diztronic initially but it does very little to protect the glass. I ended up with Otterbox Defender and have no regrets. Yeah it adds some bulk to the phone but you get used to it. Maybe try the Incipio that Janet has and see how you like it.

Thanks for your reply. Why do you think the Incipio is a better case than the Diztronic?

The incipio dualpro is a harder case with a soft inner silicone lining and will be more protective while also being a little thicker than the Diztronic , but not too thick like the Otterbox Defender.
I have the Qmadix, Speck Candy Shell Grip, & Griffin Reveal. All 3 are very nice. The Speck & the Qmadix offer more protection and the Griffin is the thinnest. I change them up depending on my day.
If you want good protection and pocket "slip-ability" as well look hard at the Qmadix. It definitely has both and it's very good looking too.

Oh, and the Incipio Dualpro & the Qmadix S are both available here at Shop Android, as well as lots of other places - Amazon, etc.

You know, I have never seen the Diztronic cases but I hear about them here at AC. So, I can't compare my choice between Incipio and Diztronic.

I stick my phone in my shirt pocket a lot, and it actually slides in & out easier with the diztronic case on it.

Westiemom pretty much answered the question. I have never tried the Incipio, but read plenty of reviews and comparisons to the Otterbox. If you dont want the bulk but want more protection consider the Incipio or one of the others Westiemom suggested. Read the reviews and decide for yourself.
Im not sure how easy it is to slip off the Qmadix, Speck or Incipio, but i know the Otterbox defender takes a little bit of time to take off. The Diztronic just pops off no problem, but i wouldnt rely on it to protect your glass if you drop the phone. I have now dropped mine with the Otterbox defender from 4+' a few times, twice on concrete, once on pavement and once off the counter onto ceramic tile with no problems. Guess i am rough on phones. I had my Droid X for over 3 years with just a TPU (Diztronic style) case and it got dropped a lot and i work in industrial environments and dropped it a few times and never had an issue. The Maxx is a different phone with the edge to edge glass and the bigger size screen etc. I probably would still be using the Diztronic, but after the debacle of dealing with the Insurance company for the new phone, i decided to go with the Otterbox. Would the Diztronic have made it through all of the drops since? Dont know and glad i didnt have to find out. Good luck with your choice.

I hate screen protectors. The only thing that makes me consider it is I'm always hitting the little metal nubs near my jeans pocket. My friend assures me it isn't enough to scratch the screen.

I upgrade once a year so I put on a case and screen protector that way I get maximum resale on my phone.

Thanks for your post. I found it very helpful. I've narrowed my preferences down to between the Incipio Dual Pro and the Speck Candy Shell Grip. I like the looks of the Incipio better, but I like the added screen protection of the Speck better.
Am I correct that the Incipio falls short on the screen protection?
Is there any difference in corner protection between the 2?
Are there any other considerations I should take into account?

Thanks for your help. BTW, your dog is adorable.

I do not own the Incipio, but my husband had one on his previous phone and he loved it. But I'm not sure about the screen protection on the Dualpro, I am just familiar with the way the case is made in two layers. The Speck is also two layers but they are fused together (the soft silicone is fused to the hard outer shell) so it is just one piece that you pop your phone into. It has a very good lip around the screen so that you can lay your phone face down without worry. But I think the Incipio does too, but it might not be as high a lip.

As for corner protection I know that the Speck is excellent on the corners, but I think the Incipio is probably too. All-in-all both cases are excellent, so it boils down to which one you like the looks of better I think. I will say the only gripe I have with the Speck is that it doesn't come up over the "chin" of the Maxx or Ultra, and I really like a case that does that. But all the other attributes of the case are excellent.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either really. I think Skatergirl has the Incipio Dualpro so if she sees this maybe she can chime in on it some more. I also think you can find some of her posts about cases in the Maxx forum.

Oh, and thanks for the compliment to my doggy pic. That is actually a friend's little girl Westie. I have two boys who would be appalled if I dressed them up like that! Haha! But I always threaten to if they don't behave! :D

I've always used cases and screen protectors on my phones. Drops can seriously damage a phone. And while they may not cost much initially due to subsidies, if you have to repair or replace them, it costs quite a bit. For all my phones I've used the high gloss silicon cases from Verizon. They're a TPU case, thermo-polymer, which is like a cross between silicon and plastic. It doesn't stretch as much as a silicon case, but the texture is like a smooth plastic. It does add a cushion when dropped, and adds a minimal amount of bulk to the phone, like 1/16" or less. For screen protectors I've used Steinhill, Seidio, Zagg, & the Verizon ones. The Zaggs are the worst. They're a wet applied, which makes me nervous, and a finger swipe is like running your finger across a balloon. The other three are all about the same, but I've used the Verizon ones for my last 4 phones. The other 2 don't always offer protectors for all applications, and it's just easier ordering the phone, case, and protectors all at the same time. But either way, to me, if your gonna spend that kind of money it's worth it to spend another $33 to safeguard it. Just my $.02.

If you're afraid of applying a screen protector, have the reps at verizon do it. They have a detailed procedure. It takes a while but it goes on perfectly, no air bubbles or dust.

If the dang Kevlar back didn't feel so smooth and good I'd have a case in a flash but man it feels so good I find myself gently stroking the back as I hold it ;-)~

I'm not gonna lie, you're creeping me out a little bit there. ;)

OK on the dogs. I went to my local Verizon store & checked out the cases. They were very helpful as long as you are willing to pay full price. I decided to go with the Speck. I'm not thrilled with the appearance, but it looks like it can't be beat for functionality unless you want to go with a bulky case. I was all set to buy it, but like I said, they only sell at full price. The Speck website had a 1-day deal of 20% off, so I came home & ordered it from them.

Do you have any suggestions for a screen protector? I have been looking at the Zagg Invisible Shield because of their reputation. The Verizon store offered me a non-glare 3 pack for the same price as the single Zagg. It got me thinking. The screen is very high gloss, and I remember from my old Palm days how difficult the screen was to read in bright light. Can you shed any light on the subject? (Pun intended)

Thanks for your post. I just settled on a case and now need to get a screen protector. I have a Zagg protector on the screen in my car, but I don't have to swipe my finger on it, so you just convinced me to forget about Zagg. It's interesting that you mention the Verizon protectors. I purchased a 3-pk for my Droid X when I bought it, and I never removed the 1st one I installed. There was no reason to. I was really surprised that it held up so well, and I used it for almost 3 years! Recently I was in the Verizon store & they showed me a non-glare version of their screen protector. Glare was a big problem outside on my now ancient Palm. But I have also seen non-glare protectors take the sharpness out of a picture. Do you have any advice?
