I broke the glass on my S7 Edge and when trying to replace it, everything but a thin silver film and what it's attached to came off. This means my phone works, but I can't see any display because it's just a foil type thing attached to the rest of the phone. I know I need a new digitizer and glass obviously, but I don't know if I also need whatever the AMOLED is as well. I'v also seen that there needs to be a polarizing film attached over the foil, but is that part of what the digitizer is?. I'm trying to avoid having to replace the entire screen though since the whole thing didn't come off. Any help on what I need would be great as I need to be able to see my screen again.

The easiest is to buy the complete assembly. It won't be the cheapest. Unless you have the UV curing machine, LOCA glue and all the other requirements needed for the repair you're asking about, you'd be better off asking a local repair shop or an insurance claim. Pricing varies from supplier to supplier, but a quick comparison revealed they are in excess of $300.
