Do I need a word processing app to retrieve texts saved on SD card.or I device storage?

Can't access anything in my files storage. I deleted S-mote after update, coz can't figure out how to use it; no help or instructions. Do I need a word processing app?

You should be able to access files using My Files app. You should find it in your app drawer. It may be in a folder called Tools

I started in My Files, but when I try to open texts, it gives a totally weird format; I have to try to pick out words from lots of blue or red letters. With documents, it days "all apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked or are not installed". I do have a bad habit of turning off/disabling preinstalled apps that seem (or are) useless bloat to me. I resent companies forcing crap on me, like forced "sharing" on social apps.
(I have this weird hangup about liking the Constitution & the rights I'm supposed to have...). Stupid, right?

One of the best file managers is Explorer, free from the Google Play Store. It has a whole host of file facilities. Rooted users can use the more powerful Root Explorer version.
