Do live wallpapers really drain a lot of battery?

Topic question - yes or no? Do you use it? Some of those live wallpapers are just so nice, and I have a hard time to resist.

I think running out of battery isn't a big issue for me right now because I charge my note 3 at work. On the weekends, when I go out, I will bring with me the external battery pack made by a company called iPolar with 8400mAH juice. When I drive, I keep my phone connected to the USB port for charging.

I personally think this thinking is left over from earlier versions of phones/Android. Today's batteries can probably handle a live wallpaper and only affect the overall life by say 30 minutes. Something that would be harder on your battery is dropping it to a very low charge constantly.

Not all live wallpapers use battery equally. The ones that are more graphics/animation-intensive are going to drain the battery faster than others that are less so. Some live wallpapers also access the web for various reasons (e.g., to update weather or location), which can use battery as well.

My note 3 battery life was fine...for the past 2 weeks, that is until I downloaded a nice live wallpaper. Roses with soft misty dew...but the battery was being killed, I mean literally woke up one morning, couldn't even turn on the phone, late for work as my alarm of course did not go off which had never happened before. After going over everything which I could not understand if it was the wall paper or not even though I have gsam dowmloaded, I decided to take the down the wall paper and my battery has been fine ever since. I also close apps by pressing the home button every chance I get. I use my phone heavily for work (texting, phone calls and checking my email)... so I figured the live wall paper wasn't worth that type of drain.

Butterfly live wallpapers (app) shuts down the phone -LG G3 while attempting to open it. Any idea why this happens ?
