Do not disturb not working

I need to use my phone to cast movies for a group of kids I work with. Despite do not disturb being selected from the drop down, I am still getting texts that display on the screen and all the kids can view them. Most likely nothing too embarrassing, but obviously not good!
Thanks for any help, I Google but not finding anything that is specific.

I believe that do not disturb is for notification sounds.

Can you upload your video to YouTube then cast to the TV. Are you using chromecast?

Do you have any exceptions turned on? Settings>Sounds and vibration>Do not disturb then scroll down to the bottom to Allow exceptions and make sure No exceptions is selected.

No, I am using a WiFi Direct device to cast Amazon prime movies.

I believe that do not disturb is for notification sounds.

Is there anyway that you know of to disable all notifications and txt messages. Seems like there has to be!

I know that you can disable notifications for individual apps, but I don't know of a master switch to turn off all. That would seem like a lot of trouble; would have to remember to turn them back on and you could miss the notifications (not sure if backlog notifications would pop, after turning them back on).
