Do you Clear Cache Partition?

On my old HTC EVO phone, and on my Nexus 7 2012 WiFi 32GB, Clearing / Wiping the Cache Partition, is a good practice to keep the OS running smoothly.

On the N6, I haven't seen much discussion of it.

Would you do it as a regular maintenance step?

Would you do it before and/or after flashing or installing a new version of Android?

I typically do it after a system update, or if the device is acting oddly. It's hard to document any clear benefit after updates, but I have noticed it work for the occasional glitch that may occur.

I wiped my Cache Partition on N6 yesterday.

It behaved a little strangely in the process.
It's always been fussy (even on my old phone) to get from Recovery mode into that menu that includes Wipe Cache Partiition. Instructions are Power then Vol Up. Took many tries

The type on screen on N6 is incredibly small throughout this.

Then after selecting Wipe Cache Partition, it gave me 2 yellow status messages at the bottom, something like:
Wiping Cache Partition
Formatting Cache Partition

(not exactly but like that)

And it left those two tiny yellow messages on the bottom of screen. It never went back to a menu. I left it for 5 minutes and in the past it only took 1 second to wipe on my old phone.

I eventually rebooted by holding the power button.

Phone is OK now. No problems. Just an odd process.

The Nexus 5 typically takes 5-10 minutes to complete the cache wipe, so I wouldn't be surprised if it takes that long with the Nexus 6. I've found the ASUS Zenfone 2 to take about 5 minutes as well. But my Nexus 7 does it in a few seconds. Not sure why they differ.

The trick with the "No Command" screen is to press and hold Power, then press Volume Up for about half a second, then release both at the same time. Do it all in one sequence--bang bang bang (i.e., don't linger with holding the Power button).

Thanks for the tip. I had to try again. It took me 3 tries.



Now it's wiping the cache again.... I have the 2 yellow status lines at the bottom of the screen

UPDATE:
It took about 5 minutes to get back to the recovery menu (blue menu), after wiping cache.
