Do you have to format new MicroSDXC cards prior to use?

I just got a 64 gig microSDXC class 10 SanDisk card and installed it on my S5. The phone didn't send me any instructions to format it after installing it. Do I need to do a manual instruction to format the card?
When I look up my storage, it says my "device capacity " is 16 GB but my SD card total space is 59.45 GB.
I am a newbie- this is my first post......thanks!

Everything is good. "Device capacity" refers to phone, not SD card. No need to format a brand new card. Just have fun with it.

It doesn't hurt either.

FYI if you want to transfer files larger than 4GB you have to format it anyway to ExFat.
