Do you Keep data roaming off.

Prevents unwanted charges and I'm assuming it only applies when out of country so I turned it off. Do you guys?

Depends on your carrier. I've always left the roam guard off and let the phone roam if needed. The reason is because Sprint doesn't charge for roaming so it doesn't hurt my wallet . If your carrier charges you.. I wouldn't allow it to roam.
