Do you leave your Chromecast "ON" or plugged in 24/7?

My chromecast units and I have 4 of them have been plugged in since the day I got them, which was so long ago, I have actually forget the date. But I know it was the 1st time they sold them at best buy. So I say why not. None of them have failed yet. or over heated.

I got this for Christmas and it's the first question I Googled.

Not bad, $29.99 minus $20 Play Store credit.

I leave mine plugged in all the time - using the extender and AC power. Sure it gets warm - so does most of my electrical equipment, even when running on standby.

It should be pointed out that leaving it plugged in does not guarantee to make it any more likely that my Chromecast app will find the device the next time I need it to, but that's an issue for an already long thread elsewhere...

Meanwhile, there's the incessant images that are being downloaded, one assumes, even when I've not got the TV on. They're unnecessary, 'something shiny' and probably drawing on my internet cap, however marginally - but hey, its not costing Google anything, is it?

Mine is plugged into the wall. The benefit to me is that I don't even have to turn on the TV. When I want to listen to music, I can start up the chromecast from any room in the house, and the TV automatically turns on and switches to the correct input
How do you get it to turn your TV on automatically?

If I remember right it is part of the HDMI 1.1 or 1.2 spec. It allows for control signals as well as video and audio. I also have an old Logitech revue that lets me turn on my box and TV with the review keyboard...
