Bonus points haha

But seriously, I was thinking today how I haven't had a smart watch in a long time, and I really do like them. But it seems that people aren't really buying them, as prices are still super high, and companies aren't really making new ones, such as Motorola still on the 2nd Gen Moto 360.

I think ones that are simple and in the $150- $200 price range will. I'm still using my pebble. I have a Garmin golf watch that provides sms notifications. I see Garmin and Fitbit succeeding in the long run and others remaining as an expensive want and not a need. With the cost and WearOS needing some long term direction, it seems that holding off is the best option.

Most people I know think they're unnecessary tech. Personally I'd never buy one.

Great thread, OP! And welcome to Android Central!

I think smart watches do have a chance to survive. I know a lot of Apple enthusiasts wear Apple watches, and they're very intuitive. I myself wear a Fitbit, and I use it every day. However, I don't really use it for mobile notifications; but I like knowing that I can if I need to. I moreso use it for fitness.

I guess it's a matter of whether or not the individual consumer feels that the merchandise is worth the money. There are a lot of introductory/mid-range smart watches that will get the job done just fine without breaking the bank.

I definitely do see the merit in smart watches, but at the same time, I believe in waiting for sales or buying something that specifically suits my needs without going over my budget.

I think they will survive. I personally don't have one.
But I haven't wore a watch since grammar school.
I have look into them but just haven't purchased one yet

I love my Samsung Gear Sport smartwatch and wear it everyday. My main reasons are:

- For Notifications
- Alarm for medication reminders
- Smart unlock of my Samsung S10
- Quick read of incoming emails and texts
- Quick timer/alarm set with voice
- Steps/floors/mileage/heart rate tracker

Those are just the main features I use daily. I find my smartwatch very useful, but others may have a different opinion.

Like the posts above show, some like them, some do not. So it's probably a niche product where some can find a use for it and others not so much.

I personally do not use one and do not see the need at this time to spend the money on a product that I would use for a day or two then put it in the drawer.

Very unnecessary. Especially Apple's iWatch. At that price I'd rather get an amazing looking watch. IMO its ugly AF.

Seems to be more of bragging rights.

I love smart watches. I have 2 Galaxy Watches and 2 Apple watches. I love being able to take or make (ir reject) a call while my phone is elsewhere. ...and keeping up with fitness stats.

They are ugly, but serve a purpose. It's something that you don't need, but once you do, you appreciate what it does. Imagine a work environment where you cannot have your cell ringer on, but you get a call from your kids school, or a text or email. The notification on your wrist when you cannot use your phone is a great advantage.

Everyone thought pebble was a gimmick. Then apple comes out with their own watch and now it's the hip thing.
Schools are actually banning them to avoid communicating with fellow students and of course cheating.

I always enjoy being able to just look at my wrist and see what the weather is outside (don't ask me why).

I’m sure they’ll survive but I, personally, have no use for one.
I wear a regular watch (mechanical marvels) so I always know what time it is. Plus I don’t have to charge them.
I don’t need to know how many steps I take a day. I walk a lot at work, do stairs and am generally in good shape.
I DO NOT want to be bothered by hundreds of notifications per day in my face. I carry my phone with me and check it time to time. This includes my work and personal phones.

This is just me and it won’t change anytime soon.

I hope Smartwatches do continue to survive. I love my Samsung Galaxy Gear Sport and wear it everyday for the following reasons:

- Alarms for medication
- Notifications
- Setting timers using S-Voice
- Tracking health data (e.g., steps, heart rate, etc)
- Quick view of daily/weekly schedule
- Great battery life

You have a good and valid point. It's something that you don't really think you need until you buy one and realize all of its benefits and how convenient it is.

I love my Apple Watch. I tried a Ticwatch Pro once on Android an ehhh...

Love smartwatches and fitness watches. I've always wore one for the past 4 or 5 years now. Samsung Tizen watches, Apple watches, WearOS etc etc but since I've got serious about running and fitness in the past year or so I've gone to Garmin. The GPS and fitness tracking is way better than normal smart watches with the bonus of smart features like notifications and contactless payments. For me it's the perfect blend
