Document editing, saving, printing?

I am trying to find an Word document editor, something to allow me to open, edit, save and print Word documents in Word format or open office format or whatever other usual format they happen to be in, but am finding it very, very hard.

The applications I have so far downloaded seem to be very retarded when it comes to performing the most basic functions, such as opening a local file, or editing a file, or even saving it to the local storage. I am not even going to talk about the possibility of printing since we have not gone past opening or saving yet.

I have instead found applications that insist of opening or saving files only on some "cloud" but not on the local storage. Other applications can only understand/open one type of files for example being unable to open any other file, not even offering you a chance to say "go ahead, open it, it is a text file, I promise".

Can anyone suggest an application that can work with text files, word documents, and even excel spreadsheets without needing to be online and without needing to send my documets or my details on to the internet?

I've had good luck with Google Drive and Google Docs.
