Does a messenger app exist that will play nice with iphones group texting?

We have 5 smart phones in the family, 3 of them are iphones. Those of us on iphones do enjoy the group chat feature between us. By the end of the year, we will have 1 additional iphone and I am getting a Note 2. Preparing for this eventuality, I did not want to be left out in the cold, so I am going to have everyone install ChatON. It is available for ios and android, has group chat and lots of other stuff.

Problem with some of these suggestions is that it requires all phones to download a certain app. Which is almost impossible to get people to do.

For now I'm going to keep at it with the Verizon app. The only annoying part of that particular app is that when you open up a text thread it defaults to the first text and you have to scroll all the way down to the most current. I had hoped there was a setting somewhere to fix that but I couldn't find it.

I'm actually surprised you haven't settled on GoSMS or Handscent...those seem to be the 2 most popular choices for text message apps.

The reason I don't like either of those is that they create duplicate message. So if you have a group thing going.... You get two texts with the same thing. One from the group and one from the individual. It's super annoying. Verizon is the only one that doesn't do that. If you are watching the app, it will create the second text from the individual, but then it gets rid of it placing the message in the group. My BB was far more seamless when texting with iphones.

That's strange...I never get duplicates. I only get one in a group thread. Even the stock app doesn't give me duplicates.

my issue with GoSMS and group messaging is that you get a notification sound when it first receives the message and then once it recognizes that the message is a group message, you get another notification sound. then the person's sms thread is bumped to the top along with the group message thread with the same time stamp. you also can't see any group messages in the pop up notification window, just something that indicates you got an mms, which is somewhat annoying as well. but in the end, it works.
