Does an bootloader unlock through HTC Dev reset to factory default?

If so, how would i go about restoring and backing up everything? I doubt i will be installing custom roms, but i had a kyocera echo a few years back that i rooted and had some cool apps i could use with it, and i heard the rooting process was difficult onthe evo 3D so i never did it. I think its time i root again!
