Does anybody's verizon hot spot work?

If you're using a mac it's a known issue. I can connect to my iPad all day long but when I connect to my Macbook Pro it will connect and disconnect continuously after about 3-5 minutes....

Perhaps its a macbook pro issue, as I have been using the hotspot with my iMac for over an hour now, including downloading the itunes up date without a single disconnection.

I used it all last week when I was visiting my folks in NC (who don't have a wireless router). I was very un-impressed with the hotspot, though it could be the house they are in (very old and seemed to be very weak 3G inside the house).

The computer was VERY slow (pages would take a long time to load) while connected to the hotspot, and I was un-impressed and wondered what the buzz was all about using the phone as a hotspot. And the laptop is brand new (I've had it less than 2 weeks now).

I live in a 4G market (Atlanta), so I may give it a try here to see how it compares.

I have been using the service a lot in a 4G area and not had any issue so far.

I've been experiencing this issue with my Thunderbolt. I have to cycle through turning hot spot on and off to get devices to connect, and even then every few minutes it drops the connection. My devices will still say they are connected, but wont be able to access data, and my thunderbolt's 3g symbol will sporatically appear and disappear. No 4g in my area.

I was in Atlanta last week using the hot spot on my Thunderbolt and had the same issues. It would disconnect every couple of minutes. I have not tried using it in Columbia since I have been back. It might be an issue with the 4G network in that area. It would just randomly cut out on me, on the phone and pc.

It seems more apt to disconnect if I'm doing anything data-intensive, such as uploading music files to Google Music, or downloading large updates. I might try calling Verizon today to see what is going on with it.

I used my HotSpot when I lost my Comcast connection a few weeks ago. It only seemed to drop if the phone went into an idle state. All I had to do was turn on the screen and have it not time-out. Did this for most of a Sunday.

I had this problem last night. I was using my Hotspot to play Call of Duty online on my Ps3 and every minute or so it would log me off of the Playstation Network. I would look at the phone screen and I noticced it no longer read 4g hotspot and just said hotspot... then it would come back and I would sign back on the network only for it to drop the 4g again and sign me off again... very frustrating!

Just got off the phone with Verizon.

The customer service representative had me turn on data roaming, an option in the 'Wireless & Networks' -> 'Mobile Networks' submenu. She just told me to make sure and turn it off if I'm out of the country, but in the U.S. there is no charge for roaming. She told me to restart the phone.

After doing that, in OS X I downloaded a 500 mb file, with one disconnection. I then restarted in Windows and downloaded a full 2 GB file with no problem. Got back on the phone with customer service to tell them that it seems it works fine in Windows, not in OS X. Representative said that unless my Mac is losing the actual wireless signal (which it's not), that that is not likely the culprit. She told me it would be ideal to connect with a windows and os x computer at the same time.

Lucky for me, I have two computers, both Macs, where I can run Windows on one and OS X on the other. Connected to the hot spot with both, downloading a 1 GB file on each computer at the same time, and no glitches on either operating system.

So, either the data roaming being on has solved the issue (save for the one last disconnection), or it just chooses to randomly work and randomly not. I've never been able to download such large files and stay connected for this period of time, so I'm slightly excited that it might be working now ;).

Just used mine for the first time for a couple minutes to test it out while its still free. Worked good for the 5-10 minutes I was messing around with it. Downloaded a 80mb file at 1.5mbps or so and tested my speed on Speedtest.net while it was mid-download and still got 15mbps down and 6mbps up. Not too shabby!

I've used the hotspot a few times with my Wii to download some games that I purchased. Worked okay for me.

I just checked my data usage, and with all the test files I downloaded, internet, and streaming music, for only FIVE days of use, I'm at 5.5 GB! Thank heavens for unlimited data plans!!

I kept the connection just fine. But the laptop was so slow on 4G that I gave up after 20 minutes. The 3G teathering on the old blackberry was much better.

For anyone having issues with the hotspot, root your phone and use the wireless tether app. It will fix the problem.
