Does Anyone Know What This Symbol Means?

This started showing up on my text messages. The circle with an X in it. I don't have a clue what it means, never seen it on any version of android or any of my other phones.

I could be wrong but I believe it is for Google talk. only shows up for some of my contacts as well but I think it is to let you know if they are available on Google talk or chat

You are correct it is for google talk. If not logged on that is the symbol. If busy it is a red dot, away is a yellow dot and green dot is available. I use Google talk for video chat and use the indicators to know if they are free. Its good because I can pull up the contact and video call right from there or start a chat without having to go to talk app.

Thanks that's strange though, I do not have/use Google Talk and the one person with the symbol is on an iphone.

Google Talk can be access through a computer via Gmail.... so they don't have to have an Android device.

Google Talk is accessed through Gmail, all androids have it due to needing Gmail to log onto phone, stand alone PC and multi platform apps ect. Basically if you have a Google account every time you log into it for anything Google talk or restart you android you are signed in to it.

Do I need to be logged into both talk and google plus? Im only logged into talk right now

No google+ has a separate video chat/call option. That's called hangout.
