Does apps like clean master really work

It depends on what you're looking for. If you want a quick way to clear cache, etc then it is fine. It is letting it close apps and/or interfere with RAM management that creates the issues.

Something I've wondered, when an app like this clears "junk" or "trash" is that only stuff in apps cache? That is, are there things it will delete (that are legitimately "junk") that don't get cleared when I just clear cache from the devoice Storage in Settings?
Also, I tried out SD Maid a while back, and one feature it seems to have that the others don't by and large is finding of duplicate files. I have installed and uninstaklled that app a couple of times just to check for duplicates. They have almost always been music files. Either a duplicate sound file of a song, or duplicate cover art for an album (although it also will find "duplicates" for two disc sets and such). Initially, this was a worthwhile amount of space to clean.
FYI, I do not currently use any of those cleaner type apps. Nor battery saver apps (I do use GSam).
FYI, one thing people will tell you as to why you shouldn't install them is that they just make the app have to reload whatever cached info Clean Master, etc. removed the next time you open that "cleaned" app. This actually slows down your phone when next using that app.
While true, it seemed to me when I used such apps that this certainly is counter productive for apps you use every day, but if you use an app every week, or a couple of times a month, I can see a benefit to not having extra stuff being stored for those periods in between. I suppose that's more an issue if you have a phone with limited stroage available..

This is one thing I love about Android. I had a colleague switch from IOS this week and when I showed her Androids ability to track battery and data activity, and explained how useful it is to diagnose battery or lag problems, she was blown away. And thus thread is a other example of it. One of the best post-ICS features ever!

I use ccleaner for android, I dont just clean whatever it wants to though, I go through individually and see what it finds. For example after an app is uninstalled it will find all the old and empty folder I no longer need and I will delete those. More for my OCD and not really performance though. The way I see it is that old phones like a single core 800 mhz with 256 mb ram will need an app to do that. But the turbo is such a beast i dont find it makes a difference. The phone can handle it.
Fully agree, CM seems pretty efficient at cleaning cache n lots of crap but should leave RAM management to Android. CM can also detect apps that are running wild and cause device to heat up. It will prompt you to close it. Also has boost charge function to speed up charging

Along with the usual (valid) reasons, people also overlook that these apps (and many free versions of good apps) tie up some resources via pushing ads...not to mention use up some of your data allowance if you're not using wifi.

I just read that Clean Master is continually sharing your location with their advertising network. Now I understand why it is pre-installed on my Asus tablet, they earn money with it ... let's see how I can get rid of that crapware!
If it came pre-installed you probably can't uninstall it. But you should be able to disable it. Go to:
Settings > Apps > All > Clean Master > Force stop > Clear cache > Clear data > Disable

I used clean master for several years on several different devices.
Earlier this year i decided to get rid of it on my devices, and i havent needed it.
I do not use it anymore, i feel its unnecessary.

Memory has nothing to do with speeding up your phone. By clearing you cache all you doing in increasing memory, not performance. Now deleting apps speeds your phone up not Because it creates more memory but because it limits background processes and updates. If you want to boost your performance, put your phone in developer mode by going to (settings) and clicking on (about ) and then going to (software information) and then click (build number) 7 times until it says your in developer mode. When you go back to your settings you should find developer options down near the bottom of the list. When you go into developer options you can then limit background processes, I usually /
Limit it to 2 background processes at a time. this will save you battery and make your phone more responsive, and some phone also have the option to "maximize cpu performance" this will make your phone faster but will drain battery quicker . Basically anything that will lessen the load on your phone Will speed it up. A lot of people are under the false impression that their phones run slower due to their memory being full, this is not true. The only time memory effects the performance is when it is COMPLETELY full. By deleting apps ou don't use and lessening the background processes, and closing out all your windows, and turning off your animations this will all speed your phone up like new. And is you ent to check the performance of your phone Nd see how it stacks up against other androids, download the "antutu benchmark" in the Google app store, it will test your cpu, ram, graphics, speed ect... And give you an overall score and places the score in a list and you can see if your phone is performing as well as it should. Also another easy thing to do to speed your phone up is to restart it every day or so, to close out any applications running and to kindve give it a rest. Make sure you restart your phone before doing the antutu benchmark.

You have most of this right, the stuff about turning off animations, not worrying about RAM and leaving cache files alone, etc. But I disagree a little with manually closing apps and worrying about background processes.
Most background processes are not really running, they're only inactive system processes. Meaning they're only cached in RAM, just kinda siting there, listening and waiting for something to happen that requires their use. For example, the keyboard. When you're not typing it just sits, parked in memory as a background process until you tap on the screen again.
The thing is, while background processes are parked in RAM they are using virtually no CPU cycles or power. Killing them or otherwise worrying about them is not only a waste of time, it's counter-productive because they will probably just reload anyway, wasting CPU cycles and power.
More importantly, you're not taking advantage of Android's optimization capabilities, resulting in less than optimal performance and reduced battery life. Android can learn from your usage habits and optimize itself to suit. It also learns when lag occurs or other system glitches and adjusts to cope with them better. It actually will run better and better as you use it. But it has to be allowed the chance to do so. If a user intervenes and manually closes apps or kills processes, the learning/optimization process is broken. The interventions essentially causes incorrect information to be sent to Android, ultimately degrading performance.
Best to simply use the phone, let Android do it's job as intended, relax and enjoy your phone. Don't worry, be happy.

No I would have to deny because before I downloaded clean master or any good battery saver my battery was draining like crazy when I installed battery saver problem solved
I use clean master to save battery and to get rid of junk files I don't really use the boost option is all this okay
