Does ATT Truncate the Contract Term When You Do an Assumption of Liability Like Verizon Does?

On Verizon, when you do an AOL of a line, they truncate the contract's term to 1 year if the contract's term is more than 1 year. If the contract's term is less than 1 year, you keep the same contract end date after an AOL as before the AOL.

Does ATT do it the same way?

As of 4/21/2013, Verizon stopped truncating contracts. Don't know what the policy is for AT&T

What?!?!?!?!?! When did they announce that?

They didn't really, or at least they didn't announce it publicly. Probably to avoid a rush of people that would AOL under the old rules, but I speak from experience. I did an AOL on Monday and was surprised when the contract wasn't reduced to a year. I even had to agree through an email link, to the new terms before it could be processed. Maybe they were worried that people would upgrade within families and do an AOL to reduce the contract.

What is AOL? and how does it work if you don't mind me asking?

Stands for Assumption of Liability. Great for people that want to pick up a contract and not have to commit to a full 2 years or activation fee and great for those looking to cancel service and avoid an Early Termination Fee

Transfer of billing responsibility on AT&T does not change existing contract length at all when done in a store, but lines out of contract normally get an 11 month contract tacked on.

There's shouldn't be any 11 month contract unless a rep is ripping you off for the commission/sale. Unless you're getting new equipment, the only reason you'd have a contract would be to get a corporate discount (premier/iru)
