OTA updates do NOT count against your data allowance.

that's what got me confused.... I'm not on ShareEverything plan... I'm on a family share play. (primary line has unlimited, the other 4 lines has 2GB each)

It's not specific to just Share Everything plans. I used that as a reference as it's the only one I could find on their website. The ONLY time you may incur data charges with an OTA is if you're roaming off Verizon's network. Otherwise, I've NEVER heard of anyone being charged overages due to a OTA update.
