Does Google Chrome eat a lot of data?

I noticed that Default browser eats up a lot more data than I'd like it to, so I switched to Opera Mini, which is absolutely amazing in how it takes up next to no data..however Opera Mini is pretty terrible. Is there some in between ground with Chrome?

Go to settings and then bandwidth management

I don't see it.

I'm not seeing data savings in my stable release either. Nbd that's what I use opera mini for.

I'm on the latest Chrome with my Nexus 5 and don't see the option either. I'm pretty sure this is still a Beta feature unless the update for stable is being pushed out slowly.

It sounds like this doesn't have to do with the version of chrome necessarily but they are rolling it out to some accounts. Because I definately have it in the stable channel chrome app.

Found this:
https://developers.google.com/chrome/mobile/docs/data-compression

The data compression feature is currently available to a subset of Android and iOS users - if you don't see the option, stay tuned, as we are rolling out the feature over the coming months. If you can't wait, you can install Chrome Beta for Android and enable the data compression feature right away.

And I do vaguely recall getting something to opt-in to try it.

Add me to the list of having the option and not having it. I've been a long time android user and did not get the option in my chrome browser. My wife, who is totally new to this got the invite and the feature is enabled in her phone.

We both are using brand new nexus 5's...

I am worried about privacy issues with the data compression feature. I wonder if the browsing data is linked with your account when you are using the data compression feature even if you are not logged into Chrome browser.
