does it significantly impact power usage during a call? I love the clarity of calls between two HD enabled phones, and hope the feature isn't hard on battery life.

Afaik, it doesn't really affect battery life

Ive had hd calling on several phones and never noticed a real difference in battery. If it makes a difference it can't be much.
