Does Kit Kat disable OTG?

Greetings


One issue about the Moto X that had me hesitating about purchasing it is the paltry on-board memory.

With the ability though to use USB On-the-Go devices, such as the Meenova SD card reader, my concerns were somewhat eased.

I am reading though that with the Kit Kat 'upgrade' this apparently will no longer be possible; that Google has disabled OTG, has anyone here expereinced this?

Mine was non functional on kitkat until I installed nexus media importer https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om.homeysoft.nexususb.importer&token=URbls2kD power amp didn't see the menova

Any idea why they've disabled this functionality? And does it affect all USB devices? I'm particularly interested in using keyboards with my phone....

I am not sure why - or if - it is true. I posted a msg on my carriers FB page and they are looking into it as well.

I just received the meenova in the mail. I'm trying to get to get it to work but I think I'm missing something. Tonymhoffman, what did you do exactly to get it to work?

Also, I saw on the website that it is compatible with Moto X, but the box doesn't list it as a compatible device.

I think the otg problems are a side effect of the new file picker framework. It handles USB file systems differently than ever before. Since some apps like nexus media importer work and others don't I think it's a matter of developers updating their apps for kitkat

I've had a Meenova for a couple of weeks. Worked fine prior to KitKat. Stopped working on both my Nexus 7 (2012) and my Moto X (VZW) when they upgraded to 4.4. They've got a FAQ that suggests a couple of workarounds, both of which worked for me on both devices. I went with the Total Commander option so that I can queue up a bunch of music and set it to play. Not the prettiest of apps, but it's functional once you figure it out.

Meenova's tech support people are friendly and quick to respond. So that's a plus in their favor.

UPDATE: I have the Meenova and a Samsung micro to USB adapter as well, they Both DO WORK using ESFileExplorer and StickMount as mentioned by other members. For some reason it really kills battery life. I wish I could find out why.
Moto x verizon DEV ED (purchased direct from Motorola) rooted TRWP 4.4 (afraid to try 4.4.2!)
