does OTA fix GPS issues? (or copy/paste issue?)

For what it's worth, my GPS was working like a champ until the OTA and now loses signal consistently. Very frustrating as I use GPS a great deal. Hope the devs at Sammy are working on it. Everything else about this phone has exceeded my expectations.

I'm now locking quite quickly again, so I'm not sure what was going on the other day...

I can confirm that I definitely do not use my GPS very frequently though, for me all I've really been testing is how quickly the location locks...

Dont forget it also depends on your location and if there are the right number of satellites in position to lock onto.

Following the steps outlined in a post on XDA may help.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31404484

Go to:
Settings > Application Manager > All > Google Services Framework

Clear the data.

Then go to:
Settings > Application Manager > All > Google Maps

Clear the data and uninstall the updates.

Go to Location Services and turn off VZW Location Service and leave it off.

Power cycle the phone.

Update Google Maps from the Google Play Store.

I picked up a used GS3 to try out as I am interested in checking out this device. I really do like this phone but the inability for the GPS to lock on in a timely manner is pretty much a deal breaker for me. It took an hour (most of which I was outside) to actually lock on and even after it did, it had trouble staying locked on. I came from and will be going back to my Rezound, which locks on pretty quickly and stays locked. I guess I've been spoiled with that type on consistency. If they get the GPS issues fixed then I'll look at the GS3 (again) or perhaps by then the GS4. Hope Samsung gets it fixed soon.

My GPS locks very quickly when I use Waze and never loses it on my drive, consisting of about 45 miles. The only time I don't have it is in the parking garage, but once I get outside it locks immediately.

And the OTA did not fix my copy and paste issue.

I have tried this method of dumping cache data, removing map updates, etc. several times with no luck.

I also used GPS Status to remove/refresh ephemeris data. Same thing, inability to lock or hold satellite locks.

If I can get a lock at all, it's in the "+/- hundred of meters" range, which is useless.

I think I just have a phone with a bad GPS antennae.

Ugh. I have the copy/paste issue again.
Probably going to root, save some stuff on Titanium Backup, then factory reset...

Seems to me the biggest problem is always with a hit or miss initial lock. But I have this problem with my garmin too. A few weeks ago I was leaving a place and had someone that had to follow me. My garmin was getting a signal so I grabbed my gs3 and it locked right away. The garmin took about two minutes to get a signal. Sometimes it's the other way around though. But for the most part gps on my phone is pretty good.

in /etc/gps.conf setting
QUIPC_ENABLED=2
has helped dramatically with gps locking on my jellybean g3. in addition to that i always turn off google location services due to the inaccuracy it throws in.
