Does S10 have MST for samsung pay

I should probably use Samsung Pay more often when I shop, but it still seems to take about the same time whether I use my phone or a physical credit card to pay. I've used my phone a few times at a vending machine that had tap and pay (worked flawlessly and quick).

I found one that I couldn't get it to work with. It was a vending machine at work. Had a swipe one instead of the usual insert one.

Tried putting my phone various parts but kept getting an error (forgot what it was).

Stupid question alert!

I don't understand the difference between NFC and MST. How can I tell by looking at a machine if it has NFC or if I am using MST with Samsung Pay?

And hold on, I can use it at a gas station pump? I have never tried it there. It's just a strip. So, it will work there?

After I got the S10, I finally decided to dive in and give mobile payments a shot and try Samsung Pay. So far it's working really well for me! The CC approval seems to go through quite a bit faster than waiting for the chip reader. I even successfully used the trick to make it work at a gas pump @ a Shell station last night!

Do a search on YouTube, there are a few videos that explain a trick you can do...probably better than trying to type it out here and have it make sense.

Here is an article that explains the difference https://blog.bluepay.com/how-do-nfc-and-mst-differ-what-do-i-need-to-know. I haven't read too much about it but from what I understand for NFC to work merchants need to upgrade their terminals at their own cost and this new terminal will have the necessary hardware/software to make it work. With MST, most card readers already operate this way. When they swipe the card the terminal is reading the magnetic strip on the back of the card, so when Samsung Pay uses MST it sends the infromation in the magnetic strip to the terminal instead of having to swipe the card. I could be off on some of the info, like I said I haven't dived into it too deep but this was the jist I got. The bonus that I like about Samsung Pay is my debit card has a chip on it, so using Samsung Pay is so much faster than inserting the card into the terminal and waiting for the transaction to process before I can remove the card.

Yes it does have it. I've used it at places and gas station pumps and it works. The pumps require a trick though.

You're right.

But in my opinion, it's not about any time savings. It's about the virtual credit card number. The Pay apps use a virtual credit card number, so even if the vendor gets hacked, my main number is protected.

I like that idea very much, given how easily even the big players get hacked.

Frankly, I think it takes longer to do Samsung Pay--but it's worth it for me.

This. It's nice not having to worry about my card information being out there.

That is a very good point.

one of the few reasons I'm staying with Samsung. Cant live without it because I leave my debit card with the wife and still use it from my phone

I use Samsung Pay all the time where vendors machines accept tap. Previously I used Google Pay. I don't understand all the differences but with Samsung Pay I never turn on NFC. With Google I was constantly turning it on an off.

Samsung pay on some devices lets you pay at old style credit card machines that have not been upgraded to NFC, Basically they make the machine think they are a swiped credit card. Also I thing Samsung pay launches and closes NFC automatically.

I thought the UK was pretty much all NFC payments anyway?
Yes most of the places have nfc readers but there are still some without.
Also there are places with nfc readers where for some reason google pay works but samsung pay doesn't.
And it would just be cool to have mst anyway

it's a life saver for me. it's funny sometimes whe I go into lets say a target store and even in there electronics department they're in awe the never seen Samsung pay before.

The kicker is that the first thing they ask is this apple pay. I tell them no its Samsung pay and they say oh with a sound of disappointment in there voice.
