on the GN, does selecting Wi-Fi off when screen sleeps really save that much battery life?

99% of the time, I'm either at home or work. Both places have very strong Wi-Fi signals.
The phone probably doens't have to "hunt" or scan for WiFi signals....

Look at your battery usage for blue tooth in a day. I keep mine not only on but connected all day long. Yesterday I got 18 hours and it wasn't among the top for battery drain on the list.

In my experience its actually the opposite, leaving wifi always on actually saves battery because it doesn't have to use 3g or 4g to check email etc, wifi uses much less power. Y5 battery save can be used so that wifi isn't on and searching when your not around wifi

I will say that on my TB, I use WIFI when I'm at home and my battery lasts a lot longer than when its off

No way. If you turn wifi off when the screen is off, you're going to be using 3g/4g to transmit data in the background. That's going to require more battery power than wifi would.

This ^

The only way that sleeping wifi would save battery would be if you manually turned off your mobile data connection

Yup, leaving WiFi on even when phone is in standby or sleep does save battery. Since its not searching for a 3g or 4g signal. Like some have said.

But wait, what if ur not around wifi majority of the day...? is it ok to turn wifi off then so it stops searching and possibly save battery?

I keep both my 4g and wifi on overnight. I lose 5%. I turned off wifi and 4g overnight. I still lose 5%. So I can confirm it doesn't do anything.
