Does the Evo have any faults?

Lack of 802.11n even though it is a battery killer, still would have been nice. The EVO should be a GREAT phone, as long as they keep supporting it.

I have read a bit about the new rules for iPhone developers, especially the one where they are supposed to write everything in C/C++ and can't use any type of compilers, but are you saying that anyone programming for the iPhone is not allowed to port to other platforms?

That's absolutely rediculous. The man is going berzerk! He is also trying to buy ARM so noone but Apple can get the good cpus.

Guess ole' Steve is scared of the Android competetion, probably a reason why he sued HTC.

No, basically you can't write an app in flash and then use a converter to make it work for the iPhone. You can only submit apps written in C/C++/Objective C or Javascript. Apple is not restricting companies from porting their apps over to Android/WebOS/BB/Meego.

I thought I read they were trying to push that. I'm not talking about the Adobe block. I'm not a programmer, just have a hobby in learning these things so I could be completely wrong, fyi.

Apple doesn't own the rights to the software, just the rights to the App Store distrobutiom method. I can't imagine it would be legal for Apple to prevent a developer from porting their software unless Apple and the developer signed a contract, and even then I am pretty sure someone would sue Apple over anti-competitive practices.

probably, you definitely know more than i do about this :)

I'll sit in my corner and twiddle my thumbs (Hero forum)

Faults are typically subjective, they're different depending on the person. What you may consider something a fault, I may consider it a "no big deal" or not a fault at all.

I'm coming from the Pre also.

From what I seen the only fault is if 4.3" is too big for you.

I think that with a super amoled display, 16gb internal memory (or 8 just like the incredible) and i gb ram. it would be without doubt the super phone....but is the best as it is right now so just throwing wishes on the air...lol

The one big fault of the EVO, is that they haven't released it yet or given us a release date. Although being a Sprint premier customer I did register to win my free EVO.

A little off topic, but...

Wow, just read an article about Jobs' decree on iphone development. Once again I am glad to be a part of these forums, and I wish more people were.

Ex: My nephew has an iphone. He has no idea what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to hardware, development, or how a company is doing business. All he knows about is his phoen and how many apps he has (and if it's cools with his friends).

Knowing what I know, I can try to tell him that Apple is a bully, but it won't make a bit of difference. What will make a difference? Rolling in with an Evo 4G.

Yeah, Apple is that bully you want to see get theirs. But in reality, the Evo wouldn't exist without the iphone.

and the iphone would not exist w/out pam/handspring doing there thing YEARS ago, and blackberry getting so big in the professional world and leaking over into the consumer world that everyone else wanted in on the "smart phone wave"

I have been an apple user for years (My first computer was an apple IIgs) BUT i personally refused to get an iPhone b/c it was not "smart" enough for me (i have been using palm devices since they only had bl/w screens) I needed something that had more "profesional" style apps on it not 5,000,000 diff fart apps. I was on the fence about andriod or webos and stuck w/ what i knew and got a pre, but now b/c of lack of dev (both w/ apps and hardware) i'm getting an evo asap.

with that said, the only faults i can see that it has is
1. no physical keyboard (yeah im old school, i like having buttons i can physically touch)
2. the BIGGEST ISSUE, its in not in my hands yet :-P

took the words right out of my mouth brother.

that being said, the pre hasn't even been put to its potential, there is a lot of things to be addressed to make it like how the old palm products were.

palms next device needs to upgrade hardware big time

Here's my flaw for today, it's with Sprint not The Evo4G.
The launch. Announce at CTIA then wait months to release.
VZ gets a few Incredible leaks, Device it announced ad the launch is SOON.
This is one of the complaints of the Pre launch, they're letting competiters built momentum and the buzz to die from the device.

Goodfor me though cause I'll still be camping launch day (:

At the end of the day, the phones come out when they come out....

A pre-announcement does not "allow competitors to build momentum".. and in fact may forestall some success of the interim phones (such as the incredible) by encouraging folks to wait...

Additionally, WITHOUT this announcement then it would not be unreasonable for some Sprint enthusiasts to hop to VZ for the incredible.. but since we now know what we are getting we have to wait just 6wks for a KA phone :)

Not my theory. A theory from a number of sites/blogs on the mistakes of the Pre launch.
They may have kept a few from churning to VZ, there are a few from reading posts across the internet who are REALLY impatient and are or have gotten the Incredible. but the incredible is also in a position to keep people from churning to Spring for the Evo.
Not much difference beside the screen, WiMAX doesn't come into play IMO, I think it will have a good launch Thursday.

Apple also has good launches. Similar concept, announce then release soon.
Not saying they should release the device now but they could've waited to announce.
2nd biggest problem with the Pre was the limited amount they had on hand, same as the Diamond and the Touch Pro.

Just saying the biggest flaw with the Evo4G may be the launch.

The biggest problem with the Pre launch was that it was 6 months, with little to no exposure in between. Also, in those 6 months nothing seemed to really improve. When the Pre launched the OS was very beta-like and lacked a ton of features and apps.

Sprint and HTC are letting the press play with the Evo in May and launch in early June will only make it ~3 months. In addition, Android 2.1 (maybe 2.2) with Sense UI will be very polished with many features included and the near 50,000 Android apps available. Further more, the Evo will be the first 4G phone, the Pre was not the first 3G phone.

I think the Evo will launch just fine and may even beat the Droid to 1 million if advertised correctly.

I'm just pessimistic this week. I hope the phone has a great launch and there's more than 4 at each BB location.
Besides my Pre is really acting up and I'm ready for this phone NOW. ):

Mine has been a little fussy too....I am inches away from going to a repair center and asking to switch to a hero.
