Does the Galaxy S5 live up to your expectations?

I feel a little disappointed. I expected a better design since it was such a big fuss. Along with 3GB ram. Everything else is welcomed but the design from my part is a no-go. Thought the screen would be a little bigger, but at that size, it's still really good. Took the original note's size and a little more. Battery could've been better. Now I know I can't live without my Zero Lemon pack. Trade in some style for days of battery.

Need something in between, it certainly did not meet my expectations but it was not a total disaster either. There are certainly some positives, however I can say it will not be my next phone.

Features & Specs, it met my expectations. Again, why would Samsung deliver all the goods in one basket.

Design. This surprised me, I really thought the S5 would be changed.

Pretty much this..I did expect them to have a better screen though
Other than that, I didn't really expect too much from what was said in the rumors

I think looking at all those damn rumored leaks of the design ruined it for me. DAMN YOU RUMOR LEAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

......LOL!! :D

GS5 looks great to me. I am very excited for it. Better camera, processor, water resistant, better screen. Looks great.

Not really.

I mean, sure, the specs were better, but TouchWiz is STILL a bloated mess and there wasn't anything interesting.

Bash me all you want for wanting my phone to look good, but I'm really disappointed in the way it looks. It's very bland and boring, almost S2 like, and that dotted back is pretty ugly to me. I love the leather texture on my Note 3, but I'm not a fan of this. I was gonna say something about bezels, but I think the G2 just gave us high expectations. However, I think the phone overall is great. Great internals, love the fingerprint scanner and I can't wait to try out that camera!

It met my expectations in terms of features and specs. I don't expect revolutionary changes from any phone. Also when reading the rumours of the specs of the S5, the new HTC One over the past couple of weeks, as well as seeing the flagships that have already been released (LG, Sony). It became apparent that there would not be a 4K screen and that the snapdragon 805 would not be ready in time. So what did that leave:

A bigger battery- Check
A bigger screen- Check
A faster processor- Check
A better camera- Check

As for the design. I did not want a metal design, because I prefer to have a removable battery. I also have no problems with plastic. Furthermore, I don't think that a phone's design should be radically over-hauled at every update.

Touchwiz I don't mind. It's attractive and functional. I don't want stock android. If I did I'd get a nexus device.

Also as a company you have to be careful to not change your UI/design too much otherwise you risk allienating your fanbase. Look at ios7, which wasn't radically different to what had gone before yet people were stlll throwing their toys out of the pram.

The suprising features for me were:

Ultra power saving mode
Functionality of the fingerprint scanner (Paypal purchases, Privacy)
128 GB micro SD card slot
Heart rate monitor and improvements to S health

I'm also curious about this super fast download rate.

I'm a fan of samsung devices anyway so for me this was just adding more polish to an already slick opperation. As they say if it aint broke don't fix it.

I was hoping for:

1. A metal case option
2. A 64-bit CPU for some future-proofing options. Android and it's apps may not be 64-bit YET, but it will be eventually.
3. At least 3GB of RAM, again, for some future-proofing options.
4. A 64GB option, especially since the OS takes up 8GB of RAM on it's own.

The S5 reveal wasn't a HUGE disappointment; it's just not much of an upgrade from the S4 and pretty much guarantees you'll be trading-up this phone in 2 years, if not sooner.

I hoped for some more premium materials used. If that chrome bezel is plastic AGAIN......I have no words lol. Glad to see shiny cover go though.....its about time.

After all only 2 features impress me in S5, waterproof design and camera should be excellent (if its better then S4 which I am sure it is).

I expected a little more on the hardware design front. But this phone may be my next. I'm going to have some trouble transitioning back to android from iOS though. The apps just don't seem to work and look as good as their iOS counterpoint. I'm OCD about design, so I know I can count on completely consistency with iOS versus Android.

But hey, can never have it all it seems. Lol.

This is the problem: From engadget

Samsung has admitted that the public didn't see much difference between the Galaxy S3 and S4 smartphones and said the S5 would likely pack a substantially different design. Exec Lee Young Hee told Bloomberg that the new flagship will go "back to basics," adding that "mostly, it's about the display and the feel of the cover."

In case we missed it here it is again: " Samsung has admitted that the public didn't see much of a difference between the GS3 and GS4"

So basically all we learned from S3 to S4 was that if we put a perforated back on it, it will be different or a substantially different design? Sounds like a load of crap.

And?

Specifically in the US, you have to compare the models from two generations ago because of the two-year cycle most regular folk are on. I wouldn't expect tons of people to upgrade from an S3 to an S4.

I see the S5 as fresh and new within the confines of Samsung's own design DNA. A Samsung still has to look like a Samsung.

So by your outlook on this, Samsung made an incremental update because its a slightly bigger update from 2 years ago? Do they fail to see that since its such a minute upgrade from the S4. people who wait 2 years to get a new phone are most likely price conscious. Thus, they likely will find more value in the S4 for their money which would likely become 100$ less than the S5 right?

What the heck is wrong with "incremental" updates? Are you looking for "revolutionary" every year? Must not be satisfied with anything.

People who wait 2 years to get a new phone are not necessarily price conscious. They just want to buy their next phone at $200-$250. That's not being "cheap".

No, but it does mean that they are not necessarily into having the latest and greatest. Especially when the latest and "greatest" is marginally better than the one thats going to be 100$ less.

Is the extra $100 worth the USB 3 upgrade, fingerprint reader, and dust/water resistant phone?

When they got the S3, it was the "latest and greatest". When the S5 is available, it'll look like the "latest and greatest" to them.
