Does the HERO email client accept/recognize a vcal appointment?

I currently have a Palm Pre, and I don't want to bash either phone, but I am very disgusted with the fact that I cannot send or recieve email calendar appointments with the Pre. I used to have a blackberry curve and could do this with no problem and it keeps me up to date. But something so simple is just about to cause me to switch to the HERO. Apparently the Pre doesn't recognize vcal, or something of that nature. But regardless, it doesn't work.

Any feedback regarding this functionality with the HERO would be appreciated.

I tried sending an appointment with Zimbra, which uses .ics format and the regular mail client accepted it, but the experience was kind of a hassle. Gmail ignored it completely.

Then I tried Windows Live Calendar which I believe uses vcal and both mail clients ignored the appointment completely.

Calendar is not this phone's strong point. It only works with one Google calendar account and only supports Exchange or Google Calendar, and that sucks.

I much prefer the flexibility of the calendar on my iPhone 3GS which has the ability to sync calendars from multiple Google accounts (i.e. home, work) and also has support for remote calendars via caldav.

Cheers,

Thats bad news. I was hoping this would be more like my blackberry. This will cause me to wait and keep the Pre in hopes of fixing this problem with updates or waiting for a new option to come out from Android in the future.

I agree. So far the calendar is the biggest sacrifice I'd have to make if I end up keeping this thing and ditching the iPhone.

I also wish the notifications were as good as the ones on the Palm Pre, and combined inboxes for mail would be nice.

I can say that as far as a service provider, I am staying with sprint because the offer the most service for the least per dollar. But, I cannot seem to find a phone that does everything that sprint offers or that I need my smartphone to do...except my blackberry. But it just seemed so out of date and I like touchscreen phones. I may have to pick up a cheap curve and not use the Pre for a while until some additional updates come out. Verizon definetly has the advantage of selection from all the hottest phones, except the iphone which is way overpriced for service.

Well I don't know about you, but for me the 450 minute plan is the same price on both carriers. The main difference is you don't get free text and mobile-to-mobile (except AT&T users). Also Sprint's N&W plan starts at 7pm vs 9pm with AT&T.

I was looking to replace the iPhone because I don't have a computer that runs either Windows or Mac OS, so I can't use iTunes. This makes updates difficult, and music syncing impossible.

I do miss the heck out of Caldav support though!

And boy do they charge you for those txt's... Unlimited is $20 per month!!!

Yeah, but you can use AIM to send SMS for free using only data. Just add the number to your buddy list as +19995551234

I agree though, Sprint's plans are much more wallet friendly. If only they had better devices! I tried to love the Pre, and now I'm trying to love the Hero but it just keeps annoying me!

Yeah, I have the Pre and was starting to like the Hero. It sounds like I'm going to ride it out with the Pre for a little bit longer. It's not a bad device, it's just to Beta. It seemed to be played up a bit in the beginning that It may have been ready for the real world as a smartphone, but it really just a talented little brother smartphone thats hooked on phonics and trying to grow up bigger and stronger than his big brothers. Whether that happens is unknown but there are just some things that make a smartphone not a smartphone that is causing problems for me.

Absolutely gorgeous!! My husband works in leather so I know hand stitching isn't an easy thing to do, and yes you should start selling them. There's a market for fashionable bags to carry all our toys in. You did a great job.
