Does the LG G3 stock SMS app suck?

I am on the Verizon G3... Messages+ FTW!!!!

Never thought I would give praise to a Verizon App.... however Messages+ is great. What makes the app great is not the app itself. It is the backend of Messages+ that makes it great. I have Messages+ installed on my G3, iPad, Mac (native OSX app), my Chromebook and I have the ability to login via a browser on any computer. I can send and receive SMS, MMS everywhere. All in sync.

If you are on Verizon, you should checkout Messages+... its free (the app and service)

So far EvolveSMS with Android L theme is working out very well. It looks the way i want it, custom vibrate patterns for individual contacts (as well as custom LED colors), and integration with PushBullet from my desktop and other devices are all working.

I hope this is the one! *crosses fingers*

Watching the pga championship on the app right now and I really like the popup sms messages from the stock app. Doesn't pause the video and I don't have to keep exiting the app to reply to a message.

I've been using Textra for awhile and like it. I wouldn't mind using the stock messaging app if it had the ability to turn the screen on when new messages are received.

Stock SMS app is perfect for me. I love the new sms pop-up from which I can reply and I love that it goes away after a few seconds.

I agree. The popup support is what is keeping me on the stock SMS app. That's one of my favorite features of this device. The actual app is bulky and kind of ugly, but I mostly only need the popup support.

Lots of apps have popup support. If that's all you like from the stock app, I'd suggest looking into a different sms app.

My verdict is technically still out. I have changed back and forth between stock lg messaging app and then back to hangouts often. Hangouts because I am a google design fan lately. I am liking where all their styles are headed with material design and all that. But I like the lg one because of the pop up and reply and customizing the background. It offers other features as well that I haven't fully used but more than hangouts. My biggest problem with it that no one has said anything about yet.... on the t-mobile one at least whenever you are in a group message before you can do anything it has to vibrate and then convert whatever you received into an mms message all before you can even read of reply. I get a ton of group messages so It was power draining if to say the least.

Finally had it w/the stock app. It's sluggish and seems bloated, at least to me. I was gonna install the stock AOSP apk, but I found 8sms and have gone with that.

I gave up my BlackBerry Z10 because it kept dying and forcing me to do a warranty exchange, but I have yet to see anything on Android that handles messaging as well as the hub. I wish there was something on Android that gave you all of your communications in one place like the hub.

The Verizon Messaging app which seems to be coming preloaded on recent Verizon phones is a awesome app. What it lacks is visual pizzazz (it can be customized, and great emoticons! ! ), it certainly gives you one of the best across platform apps, that syncs and sends texts between Android or iPhone smartphone, tablet and your pc. I did not want my elderly mom to have to deal with a smartphone out and about in case of emergency, so she kept her flip phone, and I gave her my Xoom tablet. Installed Verizon messaging app on her tablet, and she can send and receive texts in the graphical format, much easier than using cellphone! Her text conversations appear on both tablet and flip phone very cool. I haven't added the app to her pc yet. There are many other features of the app, can we say backup? And it works in Wi-Fi! Send a text from any of you're devices, and the conversations go to all devices.

Ps. It you just install the app now, it will only have your texts from 'now' further. However, backup your messages via Verizon Cloud, then delete all you text conversations on phone, THEN install VERIZON Messaging and setup on Phone, Restore your messaging (only) from the Cloud, and voila! All your messages reside in the Verizon Messaging app (and simultaneously in the Stock messaging app). Hope I made sense....

In my personal opinion it doesn't suck and functions better than Hangouts in specific scenarios. For example...

Sent a super long URL over hangouts to my iPhone friend and hangouts cut the URL for them so they couldn't see the link. Android users its fine. Sent the exact same URL over LG SMS and they got it just fine.

Another example is when I start writing a message and wanna attach a photo I can. In hangouts once you start typing its done. You can't attach an image anymore.

Where the stock SMS sucks is fluidity. It gets choppy when scrolling and there's a delay even with animations turned off when first launching the app.

I have at&t and almost immediately had to start using a different app for messaging. The default app constantly lagged, crashed or just became completely unresponsive causing me to have to force power off my phone. I'm currently using Textra with SwiftKey. It has a simple, minimalist look that I'm fairly happy with. I wish there were customization options for messaging background image, but it's better than constant crashes.

Stock sms app on at&t works great. Minus the yellow frame lol.

I love Textra but when using it to send pictures from Gallery, only favorites pop up and takes too many steps to choose multiple recipients. Stock app is faster.
