Does the LG G3 stock SMS app suck?

Stock SMS app is pretty slow. Even the Lollipop update has not fixed it. I use Google Messenger instead. I have heard Textra SMS is good.

I used Chomp for a while and then just locked up on me. I tried 8sms, but it looks like it is shutting down..haven not tried google messanger....I am back with stock, trying to make it my own with backgrounds etc....

any iphone like alternatives, they are pretty clean and people seem to like them...

I went back to the stock app. The yellow color is awful and I wish we had other choices for bubble styles and colors but it just works so I stick with it. I was using textra and wanted a custom background so I left it.

I'm using stock app for now as I think it's the only one with a direct button from the circle case window. Also I never had the pop up before using hangouts do it is a nice bonus.

Hi guys.

Is there a way to change the tone for text messages? I can see settings = notifications but it only does the notification tones for apps. I have been checking the other settings, but cannot seem to find it.

Hope someone can help.

Thanks.

Well that is strange because in Settings in the Sound category under Ringtones and Vibrations the notification sound is actually the sound for my text messages.

Try the Google Messenger app - very similar to the LG app but allows customisation of colours. It also displays text messages on my card PID screen. I moved to it from Textra.

Hi man!

I have been hearing alot about Textra for awhile now. Thanks for the recommendation. I have just installed it and customization is easier and so far loving it.

Thanks again!

Was using stock LG app but thought I'd give Google messenger a try. I find Google messenger seems to work smoother on the new L update. Will see how I like it over the next few days.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread. I had been using Google's messenger app for a while because it's fast and simple, but I just downloaded Textra for the first time and I really like this app. I changed the color scheme to match LG's muted scheme and I have to say it's a nice looking, functional, speedy app. I would recommend it to anyone that is willing to take a couple minutes to customize all the options.

Another vote for textra. Switched from the stock app a month ago and have never looked back. Extensive customization and great handling of group messaging are the major pluses for me.

I used Hangouts for my SMS for quite a while, and recently switched back to Textra (which is what I was using on my previous phones - a GS4, and a Galaxy Nexus before that). I like the theming and customization that's available without making it bloated and laggy. Seems like the best balance between speed and customization for me.

Hangouts does work quite well though, there's no arguing that. Try a bunch on Google Play and see which ones suit your wants and needs!

I used to use Textra for a while but then switched to Google messenger. I like it. So much so that whenever I try to go back to Textra or use something else I always end up going back to messenger lol.

I haven't tried google messenger, what do you like about it? I just switched back to hangouts for now.

I really like the simplicity, the speed, and the look of it. It has some of the same customizations as the others. The only thing missing that I can think of is like in Messages+ you can customize the bubbles. But other than that I really Google messenger.

ya i don't care for the stock sms either on my g3. i tried textra for about 4 days didn't like it i too felt it drained the battery. i tried go-sms-pro for a week and i like it alot but the ads drove me nuts and i wasn't going to pay $18.99 ... chomp is was good first few days had issues with it not sending sms or receiving them.
i am currently using google messenger with heads up notification app and love it. been using it for a week now no noticeable battery drain . downside its not very customizable . after i get my update for 5.0 well have too see how the sms then... hope i could help

I like the material design and when I tap to open it... It pops up instantly (vs stock). Also you can attach a photo and convert to MMS after starting a text SMS unlike hangouts (unless it's changed recently)
