Re: does the new S5's exterior look cheap and tacky?

Ah man just saw the pictures I am very let down. I just knew Samsung was going to step it up aesthetically but alas... No luxury/premium look in my opinion. If/when they do I will be a happy camper because that's the only reason I didn't get the GS4 and won't be getting the 5.

Re: does the new S5's exterior look cheap and tacky?

on second thought, it really doesn't matter to me what a phone looks like.

I've had Otterbox big[rear end] Defendercases on all my recent smartphones:
iPhone, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy 3, Moto G....

heck, I even have Otterbox Defender case on my Samsung tablet. :(

You can probably assume that I have a thing for Otterbox Defender cases
and you are correct! :D Smartphone manufacturers can make their
phones as ugly as they want, as long as Otterbox makes a Defender case
for it. (just make sure the phones internal hardware/softwware specs meet
my extremely nit-picking mind) :D

Yeah, I wasn't getting the phone regardless of what it was like, but a 5.2 inch screen in a similar size chassis it would have been awesome

I expect the Galaxy S6 to be exactly what you described.

Re: does the new S5's exterior look cheap and tacky?

I find it funny everyone complained about the "cheap, glossy plastic" and samsung changes it and everyone complains about it now too, yet everyone loved the nexus 7 back which this is essentially the same thing.

I was one that didn't have a problem with the backs of the previous Galaxy S devices. I don't like the look of the Galaxy S5 back, but that wouldn't deter me from getting it. I'm still on the fence about it for other reasons, but I will probably get the S5 when it comes out.

The gold one looks like a couch my grandmother had. In the 80s

As long as it's different than the s4. Without a case I feel like I'm holding a fish

I think Samsung might start seeing some heat from HTC once they release their new flagship. We'll just have to wait and see what features are on the HTC. Honestly I think if apple comes out with a larger screen iphone this fall that it may put some heat on samsung and android as well. I don't know, I just feel like the S5 is just the S4S so to speak....I expected more I guess.

Based on the new HTC One leaks, it looks like HTC is doing an "S" update too.

The reason they did it is to allow for the dust and water proofing. Don't like it either but I guess it's a fair trade off

Compared to the s5, no. It looks a lot better. Reminds me of the note 3's back which I really like.

Yes. It looks like a Dr. Scholl's shoe insole

Re: does the new S5's exterior look cheap and tacky?

Well then if you don't like this design.... Just wait for the metal GS5.

Yes, not my cup of tea or coffee or soda or.........anything else.

HTC isn't going to put any heat on anyone. They create a phone that tech enthusiasts love, but the everyday consumer could care less about.

Not bad but, but I hoped for aluminum. Still gotta see it in person though. The new HTC looks good (build wise) but those leaks of sense look terrible. I'm hoping it's a little less wide than the s4 I have trouble with one handed use with it. I don't mind it being taller.

People didn't complain about the Nexus 5, Moto X, or LG G2 being plastic. All those phones are better than the HTC One or iPhone 5/5S, which happen to be metal. This isn't about the S5 being plastic or not being metal. It's about people not liking Samsung because bloggers told them not to. If you don't buy a phone based on whether it's metal or not, you're an *****. Regardless of what the bloggers tell you.
