Does the nexus 5 really have a lot of issues?

I've been using my phone since Saturday and I don't have any of the issues I've been reading on the forum. The only thing is I wish the battery life was a little better. I can still at a day on a charge with more than 2 hours of on screen time. Something I couldn't get with my moto X. I also had the SG4 which might be better with the battery but I got tired of touchwiz..oh yes I forgot... The speaker is my only complaint.

Once again, this **** is useless unless you show the screen-on time.

Fine.

This is a screenshot of my battery time today. I kept the display on all day, at maximum brightness. This includes some light web browsing, IMing, about a half hour of playing candy Crush, and about an hour of book reading. I do have ART enabled. I have all energy saving features turned off (not just for the test...having my display dim or turn off on it's own annoys the hell out of me)

This is NOT normal usage for me. Normal for me includes reduced brightness at night (not because I care about battery life, but because it is too bright to look at in the dark or indoors). My display is off most of the time...it is only on while I am actually using it. So it is not on for stuff like voice calls or music. Under normal usage I am getting around 20 hours, and even then with 15 or 20 percent remaining.

This was just a worst-case test for me. (Note I still had 5% remaining as well).

EDIT: And yes, I was on LTE the entire time. Did not do it just for this test...I just don't like using wifi unless I have to.

I buy a new phone once a year, usually the latest Nexus. Every one I've bought worked great...the camera, the battery, the reception...everything. If you go to any phone's forum that was just released, you'll always be inundated with problematic threads.
true, however, people can still compare different phones depends on number/severity of the issues reported.

well, appreciate the effort. All people wanted, is a way to grasp an idea about the battery life of this phone according to normal usage (some web, some email, some video, some music, etc).

Obviously, that kind of information is not possible since many conditions cannot be precisely restricted. Somewhat informative data may be approximated (even though still not accurate) by the apps running, brightness, and screen on time.

The new information surely is better. Not sure how informative it could be, since.... well, nobody just turn on the screen and let it just sit there doing literally nothing.

There's a lot of posts on the battery I thought. Anyway here are some more results. Obviously I'm not at the end of the charge but this isn't bad.

I wouldn't go so far as to call that kind of battery life in the above examples "bad", but it isn't as good as the 3000 MaH offerings out there. Still perfectly fine for most people though. I got by just fine with the n4 as well and it was just average on battery.

Are there a lot of user reported issues on nexus devices? Kind of. I own the n4 and n7 (2013) and there's definitely some areas there where you can tell they took some cost cutting shortcuts. But then again they're also ABOVE the quality you would get from any other manufacturer for that price. Try buying any other smartphone or tablet for what a Nexus sells for and you'll end up with a horrid POS.

That being said I would not buy a nexus phone for the same price as a non nexus flagship. Pound for pound on getting what you pay for I don't think they're worth $600-700. And I applaud Google's business sense in charging the correct amount of money

I still don't exactly get why some are insisting the n5 is an average phone. Not making sense to me.

Latest revisions-issues

Hello!
I discovered this topic today, and I am thinking to buy an (unlocked) Nexus 5 but I have in mind the Samsung S4 too.
I don't care about the on paper differences, but I really won't to know if the revisions of N5 after february, have issues.
I am referring to the camera (autofocus etc), the battery and the durability of the screeen compared to the S4 (there have been reports that the N5 screen shutters too easily if drop the phone.
I am waiting for your experiences/opinions. :)
Thanks.

I've had my black 32GB Nexus 5 for 5 months. It's my daily driver. I've never used a case or screen protector. It's still perfect and I've never had any of the hardware or software problems I read about on the forums. I've looked at all the current offerings and in my experience I'd still go with my Nexus 5.

I have to agree with TraderGary. My Nexus is nearly perfect. If I use it heavily for internet or video, yes, it can run the battery a little faster. But if I use it moderately I can get a whole day on it on a single charge. It still runs as fast as the first day, and I love everything about it.

I agree. To me, even though at this point it might not have the "best" specs, it's still a top tier phone. Buttery smooth, fast, pure android, great screen. Even if I was a millionaire, right now the Nexus 5 would still be my choice of phones. Sure, it could probably have a better camera, but then again, I'm not ultra picky about cameras, nor do I take a lot of pics. To me, it's near perfect. I think the Moto G (which I'm selling) is a great phone for most people, but the N5 takes it up a notch. Technically, the Moto G is good enough for what I do, but I'm one of those people that likes the "best". (at least I think the N5 is the best) I didn't "need" an SSD either for my laptop, but it sure is nice to have. I'm so glad I got the N5, awesome phone.

To each their own, but I want resale value in a year (probably less) or so. Putting a case and screen protector on it as soon as I take it out of the box, insures I'll get the most I can. But hey, it's your phone. Peace.

Haven't read any of this thread but I came from a GS4 and a Note 3 (got water damage) and freaking love the Nexus 5. It is easily the BEST bang for your buck all things considered.

The battery is not AS good but I definitely don't think it's bad. It gets me through my day with plenty to spare... but maybe I'm just not a heavy user. The camera is solid IMO... bottom line, at this price it's easily worth it and could easily be a $500-$600 device.

Yes, each to his own. I couldn't care less about resale. I've always donated my previous phones to a battered women's shelter.

If you can afford to do that, I applaud you. Some of us can 't. You look like an old hippie, I'm too. We just don't do cell phones the same. ;)

I've had mine since February... No real problems. I've found that most the issues I've had are caused by glitchy apps, widgets or just learning android as I was previously an iPhone user.

I have a launch day Nexus 5 and you can't find a better unlocked phone for less the $550. I have friends with iPhones 5 that ask me to use my Nexus 5 to take pictures since they think my N5 with the HDR+ pictures are better. Yes, the camera focus is slow for moving objects that is a challenge to take a good shot at a sporting event even with the HDR+ turned off. I have no build quality issues. The battery will last me 35 hours with my daily use before I have to recharge since I don't play a lot of games with it. There are a few minor issues like some public WiFi that I have issues connecting with but then so do most of my friends other phones. Everytime I see someone pull out an expensive cell phone they are paying $700 that is locked into a service network two year contract I chuckle at how they are letting someone rob them and don't even know they got punked.

Yes a friend dropped my N5 from well over 5 feet onto a hard concrete but my $18 Spigen Slim Armor Case for Nexus 5 protected it well. The Slim Armor case has a deep scratch from the drop but that is why everyone should use a quality case that is just adding 1.5mm to my phone. My wife has a iPhone 4s that fell 22 inches off the couch onto the tile floor and it has a shattered screen so any phone will break if you drop it without a case.

Well.... coming to forums like this for info on a phone is both a blessing and a curse. People come here for several reasons, but one of the biggest reasons is to help solve a problem. So you see complaints, issues, along with all the posts that praise the phone for being awesome.... But look over the other forums and you'll see the same.

I've had the 5 for... 4 months now? Haven't have a single issue with it. I JUST recently put a tempered glass screen and a case on it.... and other than some superficial scratches on the glass over the camera lens that got there when I accidentally punted the thing across the floor at Target (not OVER the lens though), the phone is still pretty much as I bought it.

The camera, while not the best, takes good pics... and they JUST released an updated camera (on the Play Store, a first), and it seems to have improved the overall speed. Battery life is good (not great.. good)... the screen is beautiful and it has been a rock solid and reliable phone since I picked it up.

All phones have issues... some people just get stinkers and need to get a replacement made... LG, Sony, Apple, Samsung.. you name it... no one has a 0% return rate.
