Does the Note Edge really have Gorilla Glass?

I had read several places that the Note Edge has a Gorilla Glass 3 screen. But just out of curiosity I checked Corning's own website, and there's no mention of the Note Edge having any type of Gorilla Glass. Samsung doesn't seem to mention it on their website either.

So, aside from a bunch of reviews saying that it has Gorilla Glass 3, has there ever been an actual confirmation that the Note Edge has Gorilla Glass? I don't see anywhere official that says it.

Well, this question was really bugging me since I'm using my phone with no screen protector. So, I decided to ask Corning directly using a form on their website. This is what they wrote back...

Good day,

Corning® Gorilla® Glass has appeared on more than three billion electronic devices.

Because of non-disclosure clauses in some our customer contracts, we cannot identify all the devices that feature Corning® Gorilla® Glass, so we encourage you to contact the manufacturer of your device. If you would like to know which devices do use Gorilla Glass or to learn more, you can visit our website at CORNING® GORILLA® GLASS |.

Regards,
The Gorilla Glass Team

I think that's a yes? Maybe? :-X

That doesn't really sound like a "Yes" to me. The Edge either has Gorilla Glass 2 or 3 as no Samsung phone in the past 3 or 4 years has not and I doubt seriously that the Edge is going to have less protection than GG2 (It likely has GG3).

That's not the definite confirmation you're looking for though, I know. You could contact Samsung tech support as their support personnel probably have access to a definitive answer.

Now, that said, Gorilla Glass is great but it's not scratch proof, let me assure you. I had a Note 2 with GG2 and I opted not to use a screen protector and low and behold after about 2 months I found a nice scratch on the screen and I think I'm pretty durned careful. I don't generally do things like drop my phone or set it down face-down or carry it in my pockets with other objects. I'm anal about my phones and that scratch really bugged me. ...to the point that I sold the phone.

I'd recommend some type of screen protector or you'll likely end up with a scratch w/in the first year, especially if you're one to put your phone in a pocket. It seems like something like a Zagg Invisible Shield would offer great protection and some piece of mind. It may not look/feel as nice as the naked screen now but, to me, it'd look better than a scratch you can see...and I'm pretty confident the screen will end up scratched if you opt to never put a screen protector on it.

Gorilla Glass 2 and 3 are great but they DO NOT make your screen virtually scratch-proof.
