I have the Moto X 2013. Favorite feature is the active display. Does this new Moto G have that? And aren't the specs better on this than the Moto X 2013? I would be getting the 16Gb 2G ram version.

Re: Active Display?

It does have active display. It's not an amoled screen so it just turns on the whole display but it's better than nothing. Can't say anything on the specs.

Re: Active Display?

The Moto g 3rd gen supports moto display as does the Moto e 2nd gen. The active display is now called moto display. Not sure if it works with the proximity sensor though.

Yeah, it does works with the proximity sensor. As soon as you pick up the phone, the display gets on (not the phone itself) and shows you the quick notification through which we can either head to the app straight from the notification, ignore it or unlock the phone.

It also has the magnet sensor so if you have a flip cover with the magnet in the right spot it turns off the display when you close the cover. The Motorola flip cover on their site has the magnet.

Re: Active Display?

actually it uses the accelerometer to turn on the active display (you have to move or bump the phone...and it isn't very reliable). The proximity sensor doesn't work when the screen is off on any phone that I know of. the Moto X Pure Edition uses laser to notice your movement (looking at it or move your hand over it) to turn on the active display, not the proximity sensor. I have both.

I wouldn't call it an exact duplicate of the Moto display of the 2013/2014 X. You have to move the phone a lot more to activate it and it does turn on the whole screen to do it. The wave over screen to activate doesn't exist either. But I like it way better than an LED.
