I know it will once oreo lands but does it right now? None of the specs state anything other than aptx and hd

It has aptx HD, but not aptx LL. (The only real difference to the human ear is the latency. If you "listen" to your music by watching it on a scope, you'll probably see differences. But if you're older than about 8, you probably can't hear any differences but the latency in "click tracks".) The real difference will cone, though, in aptx LL. Still, it will only be apparent in click tracks - real music won't be that affected when listened to by anyone past pre-pubescence.

However, even though Apple currently supports AAC, and Oreo might, both ends have to support it, and most headphones don't.

it is aac i am interested in, if you have aac only headphones e.g. beats will the v30 support aac Bluetooth or revert to SBC?

You will get AAC. When you get the Oreo update, you should be able to pick & choose which codec to use.
