Does using the palm pre usb charger damage the evo usb connections?

There may be a slight difference. Back when I had my pre, I had to cut open aftermarket microusb cables and jump 2 pins with solder to get them to work properly with the pre...do a search on precentral for more info.

You're talking about forcing something into charging mode as opposed to proper USB spec. It works the same with most devices that use USB for charging at high amperage.

That's because the Pre needs 1A to charge, not 500mA like most phones. That's why the Pre charger works fine on the EVO, or any phone for that matter. It puts out 1A.

Man talk about some good news. I lost my Pre in a cab over a month ago and had to revert back to my Treo 755p until EVO was released to employees. I have chargers for my Pre that I thought were useless. :D

I use my Pre charger at home and the Pre car charger as well as USB cables from the Pre, my old blackberry and cheap eBay cables... its all the same. Heck I've used my stand alone charger for my ipod touch to charge my Evo... lol chargers everywhere! :-)

Re: Does using the palm pre usb charger damage the evo usb connec

I'm a Pre-owner and just got an EVO 4G hand-me-down from a new 3D user. I would help save money to use my Pre wall plug/USB/mini-USB chargers

The mini-USB fits the charger input on the EVO. I'm going to trust the comments in the forum that the "electronics" in the wall plug portion are compatible with the EVO as per comments like the one below:

Micro usb is micro usb is micro usb, its nice because its a 1A charger (same as stock HTC on btw). The palm branded car charger is tops in that dept too, one of the few 1A car chargers you will find out there. Its the only one I could find that would power the touchstone in the car.

I've got a launch day EVO and I've been using my Pre wall and car chargers and Palm USB cables since day one.

Had a few Monoprice cables, but they went to hell along with my HTC OEM cable. The Palm OEM cables and chargers still work great though, and they already had quite a bit of use on them from my Pre before I got the EVO.

So, not only do the Palm chargers and cables work with the EVO, but I would highly recommend them because they definitely seem to be much better quality than the other stuff out there.

Thanks, kd0axs, I'm on day 2 of my EVO after having a Pre since release 2 years ago, and I'm thrilled to have a phone that is actually productive! I'm glad I can at least keep some of my accessories working.
