does VZW have any say in what OTA updates Google can push to GN?

Re: does VZW have any say in what OTA updates Google can push to

nothing is bigger than google.

ALL HAIL GOOGLE.

A police car isn't bigger than a Mack truck. Guess which one controls the highways. Google will do as Verizon wants.

According to VZW rep I talked with, VZW has to approve any update that goes out. They are the ones that have to support customer calls and they don't want to have a huge swell in their call center and stores if something goes out that causes problems (not like VZW approval prevents that - but then they are then on the line to support those problems as they did have the chance to review and approve). This is NOT your father's Nexus, it's confined to VZW whims and approval.

Vzw reps don't know anything. Vzw does not have ANY say in OS updates.

Oh really better think again. Vzw is a cdma carrier not gsm testing is different approval is different. Adding vzw apps. As stated in plenty of post just use the magic search feature you'll see.

I think they do have a say in what is sent out over their network though.

The update isn't necessarily sent out or downloaded over their network if you use your Wi-Fi. I do not believe VZW has any control over the OS updates. Radios probably but not the OS.

Lets see the os includes the radios also vzw has to add there vzw apps to the os which means testing so yes they have a say in the os.
ONLY in radio updates. They have no say in OS updates.

No. You are not correct. Radio updates may be bundled with the final OTA, but they are separate from OS updates. And verizon updates their apps through the market like everyone elese.

That isn't what I've read. I have read that Google that is responsible for the updates, but VZW gets to review those updates. To me that means they can drag their feet on the review, or refuse it based on what they see when they review the update.

Show me back up assistant in the market? Its baked into the os which means vzw has to get it added and have it tested.

Have you ever used backup assistant? It isn't updated through os updates. Its updated in app.

Still has to b added to the os and tested. There are alot of folks. that use ba. That was one of the reason for the nex delayed launch

So, Google would send out an update that is only available over wifi?

The app is already installed, so the issues that were there on launch are no longer relevant. (And that's ignoring the fact that point releases like this have a high likelihood of NOT breaking apps)

So, if that's true and Google sends out an OS update that bricks the phone, say 100,000 phones get bricked, who supports that? Who will the customers call to get their phone fixed? Whose reputation takes a hit?

If you answered Verizon then you get it. Of you answered Google then you're a fool.

Do you think Verizon takes that kind of risk without a say in the delivery of the OS then you have no clue how business works.

Google will never deliver an upgrade without Verizon's approval. It ain't gonna happen. They'd never burn their business partner like that. They're not stupid.
