Mine wakes up on lock screen and shows message preview. I have an At&t version but i don't know if that makes a difference. In the stock messaging app tap menu button, select "settings", scroll down the screen to the "notification settings" section and place a check in the selection for "preview messages" - "show a preview of received message on status bar and lock screen". thats all I did and it works. When a new text arrives, screen lights (wakes) and a preview of the text message is displayed.

Yes, I do have that checked. When message arrives, I hear my notification sound and light flashes in top left corner, but screeen does not light/wake up. When I press the home button, screen will wake up and text will show on lock screen. I'm on Sprint. I guess I will need to install SMS Popup as mentioned above.

I'm running stock OS out of the box. I'm guessing it's the locked version since it came directly from Sprint?

Mine does, it did it by itself, I think it only does it if you are using the stock messaging app

I am on Verizon and my screen comes on for a text (messaging). The reason for me to even check this thread is because I wanted to turn it off. I cannot find the setting though.

I have the Sprint one and the screen doesn't light up. hopefully they fix that.

Idk what stock app is, but I just got my Samsung Galaxy s 4 yesterday & I have sprint, I am also trying to figure out.... when I receive a text message my phone screen does not.light up.....

Mine lights up with verizon when a text comes through and I'm using the stock msg app. If you open the app and go into it's settings you should be able to adjust certain notifications and types. At least I see a few with my phone.

To turn on the flash when you recieve a message you go to settings>accessibility and then its 5owards the bottom.

I'm having the same issue as the guy above this comment...I have a Verizon S4 and I don't want my phone to wake every time I get a text. Anyone found how to turn it off? As far as the original question, mine already lights up, so I wouldn't know how to turn it on...

I would also like to know this
I have verizon S4 and every time i get a text my phone wakes up by it self. i want it set so that when i get a text, screen stays off but i get some kind of LED blink instead of text actually waking my screen up and going to the lock screen.
by observing other persons comments, im seeing a pattern that the people using verizon is having the same issue as me while other carriers are making it so that the text message DOESNT wake up the screen, and verizon carriers are making the screen come on.

I don't think the Sprint version does it. Which works for my needs because I don't want someone walking by my desk at work and reading my phone while I grab water or coffee lol.

It should be an option tho. I can see the potential usefulness

Anyone know how I stop the screen waking when I get a Facebook message/whatsapp or other notifications?
I have an s4
It always turns on then my leg pauses the music cos the screen is so sensitive

Amen! The vibrate or sound should be plenty to alert me. I don't want my screen waking up each time! Anyone found a solution?

Yea, that's not it. That just gives you a preview on the lock screen and notification bar. Has nothing to do with whether it lights up the screen.
