Took matters into my own hands. I installed chomp sms. It has a setting to turn off or on the screen lighting up.

So, to summarize:
The screen lighting up is a Verizon only thing. To stop it I installed a 3rd party app and turned off the setting. FWIW, chomp sms is a really nice messaging app. Note that by default group chat is not turned on and the screen light up is turned on. I reversed both of these settings.

It is also an AT&T thing. I hope it is corrected in any future Android software update!

Please advise how I activate the LED INDICATOR on the S4 mini as I don't have an option under Settings<My Device. I am a brand new user to the Samsung Android world so please bear wit me.

Nope.

Here's how mine looks:

Mine lights up for Messages, but not for Email via GMail app.

If you don't have that option in your stock messaging app (like my Verizon phone) then you will have to get a 3rd party app like chompsms.

Okay so I don't know if you found out yet or not but I found an app called "sms wakeup" and it seems to work for me

it is not working even after following the steps you told me about..still not getting any led light notification when I get a call or missed call or message?

I've asked this question many times and I've only been able to use the 'flash' of my camera when I receive a call.... Go to apps -settings- my device -accessibility -Flash notification..... Hope this is good enough.....
