Has anyone else recieved a replacement phone from Verizon because of this? I have been waiting patiently for a fix to come out for this, but am seriously thinking about taking it in today to see what they can do for me. I need sound for my video's. Hate to replace the phone i have, as it's the only quirk i have had, but this problem is unacceptable.

My understanding is that it's an issue with the phone's noise cancellation feature. It probably won't matter how often you switch phones, as this is most likely a software problem. HTC has already acknowledged it and is working on a fix, which will probably be bundled with the Gingerbread update coming soon.

I recommend using an app like Vidiom in meantime. See HERE.

Have we confirmed that those are actually mics? Someone else suggested they were part of the antenna system. If you take the battery cover off, you can see that there's two gold contacts that attach to that part. Others have said that the only two mics on the phone is the one on the bottom and one on the top.

There are two mics on the TB. One is the small hole at the bottom of the phone and the second at the top, the small hole next to the headphone jack. This was confirmed to me by an HTC service rep who contacted me directly by phone several days ago.

We talked for about 15 mins on this issue and a couple other issues. He appeared to have excellent technically knowledge and seemed interested in resolving these issue.
This follow up call was a result of when I first logged this issue with HTC a couple days after the TB was released and several email exchanges we had since then on this issue. Granted getting this type of response sooner would have been nice rather than many of the standard ?canned? PR replies from HTC?s customer service team.

Anyways, I was told it appears to be a software issue where the two mics are cancelling out each other when trying to pick up sound from a distance vs. how sound is picked up when talking directly into one of the mics.

I did try blocking one of these mics and than the other to see if it improved the sound recorded and it seemed to be somewhat better that when both are left unplugged. But additional improvement is still needed.

He did say a software fix should be released in about a month, but could not say for sure when.

HTC is also addressing a couple other issues at this time that is planned to also be included in the software update release. One of the main ones had to do with power management and improving battery life.

We talked about the battery life too. The main power drain is with the display, and he went on to inform me that internal tests showed very little difference in improved battery life by reducing the display brightness below 75%.
Some Apps have a larger draw on the power which is something they can?t really control and it is more up to the user to monitor what Apps they have running and maybe address that issue to who created the App.
Connection problems can also be a big draw if you get into an area where your phone is searching for a signal of switching between: G3 and G4.

Again, as many of these issues as possible are planned to be also addressed in the next software update. Let?s hope it is soon.

I let them do a factory reset on the phone. Seemed to make it significantly better (which wasn't hard to do being that i basically had zero audio coming from it). However, there is still plenty of room for improvement from any fix that may be on the way. I could even make it better by closing off one of the Mic's. Couldn't do that before either.

Maybe there IS hope.....

I did an exchange for a brand new phone today due to speaker phone echo, but I also have the problem with very minimal video sound even with the new device, was told by Verizon rep and also HTC that a fix will be coming for this, as you stated it doe not matter how many times a person exchange the same problem will be present.

I did a quick google to see that a verizon cus. rep. said those holes dont do anything. the extended battery cover doesn't have these holes. and behind these holes dont seem to lead to anything important. Im not sure but that's what I gather from some light searching
